Lock a shortcut on the desktop of Win 7

There's a couple locked positons for Computer, Network and Trash can icons on the
desktop in Win 7. Is there a way to add my Firefox shortcut icon to that group so it doesn't get resorted at each load?

I like to use Desktop Restore

    http://www.midiox.com/index.htm?http...toprestore.htm

It allows me to put icons where I want, save, restore, etc.

Hello and thanks to all for answering.

Quick launch tool bar screen left and startup group screen right, correct? I never get that straight over years and don't use the phrase often enough to remember it.

What I did before asking about this was put the browser icon in the left group. But I had a double row of things and when activating the browser, another icon of activation appeared down there. This led to confusion and difficulty in gettingthe browser closed after use.

If the desktop shortcut is deleted then will the activation icon, the second one
not be used? It's a difficult thing to describe.

    Hello JoWazzoo,

Does using this third party program effect 'Sort' when the icons on desktop get rearranged for size, name etc? I have to do that to find some things. My Desktop is cluttered and has some items 'off screen.'

If you uncheck the option I related your icons will stay where you put them. (forever)

Permanently looking the icons location does not seem like a good idea to me.
But I am ready to mark this solved.
The reason is that the duplicate 'activation' icons that were confusing me is eliminated with
the suggestion near the top: that of pinning the icon to the tray and deleting the one
    on the desktop.

It doesn't mean permanently. Just til you move them again. Stops the system from auto arranging the icons.
