The most obscure bug on any OS I have found (Windows 7 Photo viewer)

Steps to recreate the bug.

Step 1:
Open a large photo in the photo viewer (something bigger than 1000x1000, 200x200 won't work)

Step 2:
Fully zoom into the photo/picture, but make sure you are not all the way to the bottom and right of the photo/picture

Step 3:
Open the manual zoom widget/tool to the left of the bar of controls and scroll down a bit so the photo zooms out a bit

Step 4:
Click on the little arrow thing that adjusts the zoom level, but only click don't drag. It will close the thing

Step 5:
Now spam click the magnify glass icon and it should move downwards and to the right 1px each click

The real question is why downwards and to the left 1 px. Does Microsoft define the top left of the windows photo viewer coordinate 0,0 or maybe its the bottom left?

The fact that this bug is obscure means that no one has either discovered it or found a reason for it. In fact, Microsoft might not even know about it if it is as obscure as you describe.

For me, it is amazing that so many things work so well in Windows, if you think about how complex a modern OS is.

In some cases, the best you can do is find a workaround. I doubt that Microsoft will be fixing it, because Windows 7 is out of mainstream support.

There's a relatively simple program that does all my photo viewing and simple editing, called Irfanview. named after the developer. It is and has been free forever.
IrfanView - Official Homepage - One of the Most Popular Viewers Worldwide
After installing, it will ask you for file associations, and you'll never look back and use Photo Viewer again

IrfanView is an excellent product.

It's one of the first programs I install after I've installed/reinstalled Windows.

It can also:
  • Perform batch conversions (file type & resize)
  • Show txt files
  • Show PDFs (if you install Ghostscript)
  • Play music and video
