Windows 7: A hypertransport sync flood error occurred on last boot

A hypertransport sync flood error occurred on last boot

When I start up my computer I get the following message "A hypertransport sync flood error occurred on last boot, press F1 to continue". It then says to either run Windows Diagnostics or to continue using default values. I then get to the Windows desktop as usual and everything is fine, except the date and time is at 18/12/2009, my anti-virus will eventually tell me this and will then auto update it to the correct time. When I next start up my computer the same thing happens all over again. I have run the diagnostics before but it can't seem to fix the problem. I can use my computer perfectly fine but is slightly annoying having to go through this everytime I turn the computer on. Anyone have any idea why its doing this?

As the date & time are not being retained the first suspect is the CMOS battery, which is located on the motherboard & is usually a CR2032 button cell. Carefully remove the old battery & leave it out for a few minutes, install the new one. Restart the computer then immediately hit the necessary key to get into the BIOS set up & adjust the time & date to the current ones & then reset the BIOS to the default settings. Then select Save & Exit.

A bad battery will also cause Hypertransport errors because the BIOS gets messed up.

Yes that has solved it, I changed the battery and all is now fine. In previous versions of Windows when the time was wrong due to a flat battery no warning messages appeared, but I guess that's different in Windows 7, so when I saw the error messages I thought something else might have been wrong. Thanks for your help.

You are welcome. Thanks for letting us know it's now fixed. Windows does not notify you of this, other than the date & time changing unexpectedly, as this is a BIOS problem.

Could you please mark the Thread as Solved.

Windows 7 Ultimate, SP1, x86

I'm called on to service many computers that are 4+ years old. Every PC that falls into that age group gets a new CMOS battery. They are dirt cheap when bought in bulk, and it's not worth the problems that can be caused by NOT changing such a battery.

Just a thought from an old Tech!

Cheers Mates!
