What is all this in aid of??

Got an email this morning from Microsoft well I am guessing it is Microsoft -

Now what I am wondering is this just for Windows 10 or for all Windows versions because for example I don't think I have ever used OneDrive and I am constantly signing into my Microsoft account every time I open my mail.

Any simple answers would be welcome and sorry about the font I have no idea what is going on thre.

That only applies to Microsoft's services and nothing else. In no part you're affected by that, Windows is clearly not a "service", it's a program whose license you've previously accepted and governed by that one, not any new changes.

Maybe it applies to new Windows 10 purchases, but certainly not for any previous Windows version. Even existing Windows 10 installs are unaffected.

However, any MS service can be changed (like Hotmail, OneDrive, online Office and the like), so watch out for those.

I always thought / heard that Win 10 is a service, so if true, it should also apply to Win 10.

Software License. Unless accompanied by a separate Microsoft license agreement (for example, if you are using a Microsoft application that is included with and a part of Windows, then the Microsoft Software License Terms for the Windows Operating System govern such software), any software provided by us to you as part of the Services is subject to these Terms.

OK Alejandro and Juiz I did actually login into those two things and there were details about what machines I have and in One drive even had documents that to my knowledge I have never put anywhere except for a hard drive or stick I am using as I have never used One Drive because a) I don't know much about it and b) have no desire to use such services.

It did occur to me that taking this latest little "scare" out there by Microsoft would indeed be extremely hard to police if they want everyone to have those accounts and more so use them.

I do have a Microsoft account because I use the Outlook email but that is all and I was rather annoyed by then saying in the page I logged into that I had not bought anything and and it gave some strong hints that I should.

Frankly I do wish that this ongoing nonsense re what you can use or not use access or not would stop and that they get away from blatantly advertising products of theirs. Is it not good enough that we have bought their systems and used them for many years that we are being "encouraged" to pay for things that I for one do not want or have any use for.

Anyhow thanks for your replies as I was just wondering what the dickens was going on apart from the fact that I now know for sure that I have been "tracked" .

Of course not, how can Windows (any Windows) ever be a service?
It's a frequent marketing quote that "Windows 10 will be a service", but anyone that remotely know what is a good or service and has a minimal knowledge of what a computer is will realize that's a terrible and utter lie from MS' marketing team (much like the marketing term "the cloud").

Just think about this: Windows is a program, running in your own computer, that MS licenses you to use and has no way to affect. What's the "service" Microsoft gives you in this?
On the other hand, think of Hotmail for example. That's clearly a service, it runs in MS' servers, that they let you access though a browser, running on their own terms and their hardware that only they control.
There is a substancial difference between the two.

Alejandro, you are 100% right. You buy a license and install and use win 10 on your computer. As I said, I heard that M$ was selling it as a service.
On the link Microsoft Services Agreement Windows OS aren't on the list.
From the list, I use Hotmail and Skype.

Oh well I only use Hotmail anyway I don't trust anything that is cloud based tough I am sure hotmail probably has some affiliations with one of some sort.

I did check as I said the One drive but am unaware of how I got added to that "service" there is a thread in the Ten Forum re this but really tells one nothing much so am still left wondering why I should be contacted in something I am not really interested in I do have better things to do to be honest.
