"Delete confirmation dialog" - any way to customize when it appears?

Windows 7 can (optionally) show a delete confirmation dialog when you delete files.

Most of the time I don't want it, but sometimes I do.

Does anyone know a way to...

1. Only have the message show on certain drives?
2. Only have the message show when the files being deleted are large in size / number?

Hi,

This is as close as I can find: https://How to Customize Delete Confirmation Dialog Prompt Details in Windows | www.tenforums.com/tutorials It says it can work to customize win7.

Not sure if it will take care of what you need, if not drop a post in that tutorial and Brink may be able to work up a reg.bat file to help you.

You're welcome Marty; No problem with the timeline, real-life always finds a way to organize one's priorities.

Out of curiosity, did the tutorial work or did you have to ask Brink for a .bat file?

Well the tutorial only shows you how to customize the appearance of the delete confirmation dialog, not how to change when it appears. So it wasn't relevant for me.

As for asking Brink to make me a .bat file, Brink has been so helpful to me in the past and I'm really grateful to him, he's amazing, so I don't want to bother him further.

Besides which, I've more or less decided now that I don't need this any more.

Below is a boring explanation of why, in case you're interested...

For as long as I've used Windows, I've always had the delete confirmation dialog switched off, because I found it annoying and redundant - since I had the safety net of the recycle bin.

Things changed a few weeks ago when I installed a new SATA hard drive and realized I have a lot of noisy spinning SATA disks in my PC, so I set my computer to spin down all the SATA disks after 20 minutes.

But then I found that whenever I looked in the recycle bin, it made all the SATA disks spin up. And seeing as how there's nothing too important on those drives, I disabled the recycle bin on them. So now, only the partitions on my main SSD use a recycle bin.

But then I felt vulnerable about not having recycle bin on certain drives and turned the delete confirmation on. And this is why I came here - at first, my idea was to find a way to get the delete confirmation to only show for the partitions that don't have a recycle bin.

However, now that I've had the delete confirmation turned on for a couple of weeks, I'm starting to think that it's not so bad. And in a way I think it's better to have it on, because whether or not you use a recycle bin, there's always a small chance of accidentally hitting delete without noticing that you've deleted an important file. And even a small file can be important.

So I've more or less decided I don't need this any more now thanks! :)
