manufacturer warranty..

Got a samsung nc10 netbook that has been bsod for a couple of days It originally had XP on but i installed win 7 a couple of weeks ago. Im almsot certain it is a hardware problem so im sending it back to samsung for 'repairs' however, will they void the warranty or blame the fact that ive put win 7 on it as the cause? I dont have a win7 COA on the base as its stuck to the side of my pc so there is only the XP COA on netbook.
so basically, does it matter that ive put win 7 on it? should i try and put xp back on it before it goes off to them? advice appreciated, thankyou!

Normally your warranty is no longer valid if you change / add hardware. Upgraded OS should in my opinion not void your warranty.

mmm..
It has been upgraded. it has got 2gb memory instead of one. think i should take that out?

I was advised that if I ever need work on my Dell, I should return everything to factory specs, because changing the OS does invalidate the warranty. Lets be honest, they use vague terms in the warranty, like "changes", they can basically do what they want.

Use your best judgement, little more work now, or possibly being out of warranty.

Definately remove the memory.

Yeah, would be a good idea to have it at the state it was when bought as much as possible. Also, while most of the companies are like Kari said, I know for a fact that some of the companies tend to void the warranty with an OS change, but I don't think Samsung is part of them.

Yes, reading Richard post here above I would recommend you remove the added memory and do a factory restore, putting it back as it was with XP.

Interesting, I have never heard of void warranty because of OS upgrade.

righteo, im hoping the 1gb memory is built in the same as the advent becuase i dont have a 1gb stick for it. i bought it second hand already upgraded. i wouldnt have thought the battery would make a difference as that was upped from a 6 to 9 cell, but again i dont have a 6 cell battery to put in it.
main concern at the minute is how im going to get xp back on it because ive been trying to create a boot key and failing miserabley so far! tired and havent got the patience to try again tonight.

Samsung put little 'warranty void' stickers on those netbooks don't they? I've read elsewhere that they are extremely stern on machines returned to them which show any signs of 'tampering' too...

Are you in the UK?

Sale of Goods Act is the thing - how long have you had the machine?

SGA always applies.

Warranty is voluntarily given by the retailer/manufacturer. No need to give one at all. It cannot override SGA.

A lot of people are fooled by that.

I hope not! this hasnt got any on and if it did then the previous owner has done it.
im debating now whether to even bother sending them it! my main concern would be to get a hefty bill off them for repairs etc!
