New User of W7 and I need help?

Hi..First I realise I should never have used a password when I installed W7 ....I have deleted it in User Accounts and it is no longer requiring it on Startup BUT I now cannot save a download ..I get a Panel (that I cannot screen Capture) telling me to put my password in and press Yes ..But Yes is grayed out .....All I am trying to do is get my old XP Address books (wab) (which are in a folder on my desktop )imported into Thunderbird?? apparantly I have to convert these... I wonder If I should have gone for Windows mail for an email client....
Anyway I downloaded several WAB converter programs but then I cannot run them so something in my W7 installation is stopping it..Life was so easy with XP??

    Thankyou Ron.

That sounds like UAC. It can be disabled however you have to have a password first to disable it.The simplest solution would be to add the password back and then enable autologin. Configure Auto-Login for Windows 7 Domain or Workgroup PC

I does seem like UAC which does need a password you need to go back to your User account and add a password, (you will use it occasionally), The Password and the UAC is an essential part of security, it will close most of the loopholes which make malware writers rub their hands together with glee - They agree with your comment, For malware "Life was so easy with XP"

You may also have to adjust the NTFS permissions on the files you wish to manipulate - A correctly working Password Controlled UAC should automatically prompt you for this but if not you could use the Shortcut in this Tutorial ... Take Ownership Shortcut - Windows 7 Help Forums

Remember that Windows 7 is a much more secure OS that XP so you may find a few differences, we all did, back in 2008 when Beta testing. All our knowledge is on this site, check the tutorials and you'll be up to speed in no time

Firstly you should always use a password at login. It's one of the most basic security options to have on your system.

Secondly you need to convert your wab file in outlook express into a .csv file (by exporting it). If you don't have access to OE any longer, I only know of one free 3rd party software utility that does this called Dawn if it's still available. Once in csv form you should easily be able to import your address book into Thunderbird.

Failing that you can by running Windows 7 in XP mode but you'd need Win 7 Pro or higher. If you have Win 7 Home you can still install and set up VMWare player but you'd have to manually install Win XP on that. You'd need an XP installation disk and you might need your product key to activate it Either way you'll then have access to OE Express and can transfer your WAB file to it.
