Mouse, Keyboard and internet stop responding randomly

I sometimes get together with my siblings to play a game together on Steam. We use Discord desktop in order to talk to each other.

However, 1 in every 4 times we play, my computer locks up, except it's not a BSOD or a complete freeze. Windows continues to run, except my ethernet stops working, and the computer fails to register any input from both the keyboard and mouse. In addition to this, the HDD indicator stays solid. The only way I can regain control is to turn it off by holding the power button for a few seconds, and then turning it back on.

When turning it back on to continue playing, Windows boots normally and the event viewer makes no mention as to what had happened whenever I check it.

There is also no way of telling when the lock up will occur in the first place. Playing Steam games with other players never locks up the computer unless it is with my siblings, so I feel as if Discord is the culprit here. Though I'm not entirely sure.

I would use gpu monitor or nvidia system monitor to make a progressive log file of your temps, particularly your video card temp. Maybe Discord taxes your video card more than other gaming apps and your system is locking up due to heat, or total power draw. Another thing to try is remove your computer case and set up a house fan to blow onto your motherboard/video card area while you are playing. If that makes it stable, you know the problem is heat.

It can be a corrupted file due to a disk problem.
- Schedule a check disk (chkdsk c: /f)
- run a System File Check (sfc /scannow)

As you have suggested it may in fact be Discord. I personally don't care for that App as I think it's bloated. You may be better off using Skype or setup a Team Speak server. If you setup a Team Speak server you'll have to port forward a few ports in your router. You should be able to find help on all that at their website. I personally run a Team Speak server and I live in Colorado and can talk to my friend all the way in Perth without issue. Skype though is now owned my Microsoft so I really don't trust it. But it's better than nothing and easy to setup. No port forwarding required.

I would also make sure your video card has updated drivers. If there is an updated driver use safe mode and Revouninstaller to uninstall the current driver, reboot the computer and install the new driver.

You may want to check your hard drive. Try CrystlDiskInfo and HDTune. There's also HDD Sentinel, but I believe it isn't free.

Mouse and keyboard randomly stop working

Mouse and Keyboard Randomly Stop Working
Hi, I've been recently having a few problems with my mouse and keyboard, generally it's the keyboard freezes, then my mouse goes (because I have a USB Hub incorporated into my keyboard and that's where my mouse is plugged in), this is really strange because I've been using the setup for over a...

7 x64 mouse and keyboard randomly stop working.
As of lately my mouse and keyboard sometimes just stop working. It seems to happen more often while I'm playing games (but that's mostly what I do so not sure if that has anything to do with it :p). Usually before it happens I'll hear the usb sound and the mouse will disconnect and reconnect and...

Keyboard and mouse randomly stop working
My PC won't go into sleep mode either automatically or manually so I just leave it on all day (the screen will go off at the pre-determined time though). However, that's not my issue as I've learned to live with it. I'm just mentioning it because it could be related to the following issue that just...
