How to make the file dialog box always open in the favorites folder

I have a few work folders-about 6 in number that are mostly used throughout the workday. I need to frequently save attachments from my email client which is Microsoft Outlook. I also have other applications where I keep on saving files and then opening them.

Whenever I use the file open dialogue box and also the file save dialogue box, it opens up highlighting the main drive which is C. I then have to scroll up to the favourites folder in order to navigate to my work folders. This is problematic for me because I have chronic pain in my hands

Is it possible to make the file open dialogue box also is open highlighting the favourites folder

Thank you for any inputs (I had posted a similar thread yesterday but cannot see it. Apologies if this is a duplicate)

I don't know how to move the highlighted item as you'd requested. However you may be interested in some suggestions that I have available:

    A) The Open/Save dialog (US spelling) boxes can be resized. If you grab the top or bottom of the dialog box with the mouse cursor you can enlarge the size of the box. Making the dialog boxes larger can mean that all Computer, Libraries and Favourites Folders fit in the same pane - without the need for scrolling.
Once youve made this change then the computer should remember your changed settings.

    B) From within the Open/Save dialog boxes, you can close the Computer and Libraries folders, so that their lengthy branches remain concealed. In this way, the Navigation Pane becomes more compact and hence no need for scrolling.

    C) From within the Open/Save dialog boxes you can locate Recent Places. If you are working with only six folders regularly , then the OS would remember these frequently used folders and store them in Recent Places folder. Hence if you access Recent Places, it should be a quick way of accessing these folders.

    D) Did you know that you can scroll with the middle mouse button? Scrolling with the middle mouse button in the active pane can be smoother, faster and easier on the wrists that trying to drag the scrollbar with the mouse pointer. To do this click on the scroll bar once to make in context then push the middle mouse button (flywheel) in either up or down directions.

    E) Get a mouse mat.

    F) Get a mouse Bungee.

    G) Get a Gaming or Office mouse with a resolution of at least 1600 DPI.

    H) Learn keyboard shortcut for Open and Save. Most applications have keyboard shortcut for file operations.

Thank you for the response. I think the recent places option will work for me. But it is not showing up on my machine.I have googled for this and also searched This forum but could not find any answer.Except there was one with certain that change the user account since the person who posted this problem was anyway having problems with the recent places earlier.Recent places is showing up in Windows Explorer under the favourites option but it is not showing up in the file open and save ddialogue box. I believe there used to be an option where it will show in the left pane
    .
Note that it is a problem with recent places and not recent items. The recent items option that is shown after right clicking on the "start" buttonIs already checked for me.

Can you please suggest if there is a way to restore the recent places option in the file open and save dialogue box.

    Thank you

Is there any Windows shortcut to select a word underneath the cursor

In Windows 7, when I place a mouse over any word in the application and double-click then am able to select the word underneath it.

Is there any way to do that without using the mouse? For example, if a have the cursor on any letter in the word, can I create a keyboard shortcut so that it will select the entire word underneath the cursor when I hit the keyboard shortcut.

If it is not possible using native Windows tools, can I use tools like auto hotkey - Or anything else that helps in automation Windows operations. I dug a little bit into auto hotkey but could not figure any scripts out so posting it here

What is the actual operation after a double click that makes window select the word underneath the mouse? I don't think it is application defendant because it seems to happen across applications so I'm thinking it must be something native to Windows. If we can figure out what Windows does underneath The hood, we can perhaps find a way to do that with the keyboard shortcut

Highlighting Text is allowed in most applications, however highlighting commands is rarely possible unless the GUI is providing the user witha menu choice.

The other way to highlight text without a mouse is to use a different input device, such as pen input or use a touch screen monitor. Then you may use Flicks to highlight text.

    • Option 1 To restore Recent Places

Since you have Windows Ultimate, you can do this with Group Policy Editor. You can locate the Policy Hide the Common dialog places bar.

From the Start Menu, type gpedit.msc into search box and select from list. Under Local Computer Policy, expand the path User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer > Common Open File Dialog
Locate Hide the Common dialog places bar and select either Not Configured or Disabled.

    • Option 2 Customise the Places Bar
: You might want to customise the Places Bar. You can do this here too. Select Policy Items displayed in the Places Bar, and select Enable. You then have a up to five items to display. Select a shortcut item or Common Shell folders, such as Recent Places.
