    Searching Partial Matches

Hey I can't get windows 7 to return partial matches when it searches.

Like I have a file 31313131.avi and I try to search for it in a folder and type "31" to search to find it quickly but it doesn't show up.

How can I get it so it shows up?

    Thanks

What happens if you type .avi in the start search box?

It does return the file I am looking for along with the 4,000 other avi files.

That did return the file, along with many other useless files names that do not contain the number "31" in it.

Windows XP search assistant seemed so easy and perfect and much faster. Everytime I search its like its loading the largest webpage in the world and takes over 20 seconds. And yea it's indexed.

I've posted a few times about the advanced search engine inside Windows 7. Use filters to narrow your search!

Searching for 'matching' files. is there a better way?

    Hi and welcome

Is the folder 31313131 is in included in the indexing? partial matches do work

Indexing says completed and that folder it's in is in the Indexing I just checked. That folders contents have not changed in the past 2 months either.

About partial matches I'm confused. It's returning gif, js,htm, swf types of files that do NOT have "31" in their file names but it won't return any with "31" actually in the file name.
