    Upgrade

Well after using the RC for a while i actually went to the Samsung website where i am allowed to have a FREE UPGRADE to windows 7 because i bought this notebook in September of this year.

I went through the process of ordering and it told me i would be charged £17 for shipping. Now nowhere on the website did it say i would be charged this or in my documentation that i got with the notebook, and as far as i am concerned i have already paid for the bloody thing when i handed over my cash for the notebook.

Even if i am willing to pay the £17, which i am not, the only way i can do it is with a credit card, which i dont have, so i am screwed anyway.

I was told by a samsung rep that it is a shipping charge, where the hell is this coming from.

What a rip off, i will never buy a new machine just before an OS launch again and never a Samsung.

Anyway rant over and i am so pleased i never sold my Macbook, the samsung is going to be given to the daughter.

Screw windows machines, i have had enough.

    And a further update -
Just been on the phone to microsoft about this problem and they told me that the windows 7 upgrade program was nothing to do with them and i should contact samsung.
For gods sake round and round we go.

What amazing brilliant customer support from both of them. They have my money for the new notebook so i guess i cant do anything.

No wonder people just use patches and cracks for ms software, as it seems to be the easiest way.

Thanks for the helpful post. I'm sure future users will benefit greatly from it. If you have the money to pay for a Mac, then you might as well stick with them. Otherwise, you can contact Samsung and see if they can just send you an upgrade key. Vista is a good OS, and you might as well use it. No use going gray just because it costs £17 to upgrade to Windows 7!

Its not the fact that it costs £17, it is the fact that i was told it would be £0.00 simple as that.

I do not like being lied to.

If you had researched the upgrade process before you purchased, you would have found out about the shipping charge (which I agree is a rip but most, if not all, manufacturers have similar policies) and could have made the informed decision to wait and purchase a machine with W7 preloaded.

So because of your own lack of due diligence you are blaming Microsoft and giving up on using a Windows machine. Sounds a bit over-reacting and frankly, immature, to me, but each to their own.

i was told by samsung that it would be free before i bought the notebook. I did do my research about the win 7 upgrade before i bought the notebook so dont go down that road.

And by the way i did not spend 1500 on a mac.

Acer doesn't charge for the Upgrade shipping, and sends a clean copy of Win7 DVD with key, along with a drivers/apps menu disk with no bloatware!

They also offered to send me backup recov disks for Vista for free when I called them since it was within 90 days of roomie's purchase.

I kept asking them where were the $20 shipping costs all the other's charge, but there wasn't any.

We just bought a second Acer. (See how it works, manufacturers?)
