Windows 7: Laptop's Critical Batt Level & Reserve Battery Level

Laptop's Critical Batt Level & Reserve Battery Level

Hello all,

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Assume all hardware drivers including graphical have been installed, and all of them are optimal/latest drivers (from previous experience, some options may not be available in advanced power settings if you haven't installed your graphic drivers/notebook utilities & settings drivers).

At Control Panel>System and Security>Power Options, I created a custom power plan from the LHS menu. At the start of custom plan creation, you have to choose 1 of the 3 existing power plans; i chose High-Performance. And then i began going through the advanced options to customize.

My laptop has been configured to NEVER : shutdown, hibernate, sleep, hybrid sleep, have its display dimmed/turned off, have its HDD turned off due to inactivity etc. Closing the lid does nothing, and power button just shuts it off.

Now, at the bottom few options, i come across Battery Options. The ones which confuse me are the ones allowing you to specify Critical Battery Level & Reserve Battery Level. My Critical Level is already defaulted to 8%/5%, then why is Reserve Battery Level defaulted to 7%/7%? I don;t understand the plugged-in side?! Both Critical & Reserve Level for plugged-in overlap! Should this not be set to something like 8%/5% and 7%/4%?!

Also, i do not understand why there are 2 categories for all options : On Battery & Plugged In ... this is 'Battery Options' man ... if my laptop is plugged-in, how will its battery ever drop to Low, Critical, Reserve levels? Do they mean, like i am in transition from DC usage to AC usage (like my laptop was on battery but dropped to Low/Crit/Reserve and NOW i rush to plug it in). If so, i should be specifying 'Do Nothing' on both Low & Critical for the plugged-in side.

To totally turn off/disable level specification of Reserve Battery Level (you know you have no option to specify the type of action), i have set it to 0%/0%, meaning completely empty of charge. If you think about it, 0% battery charge also means your laptop should not be operating at all lol, so any action specified by manufacturer would be moot. Do you think this works?
