One drive partitioned into 4 other drives
C:
D:
F:
G:
H:
Z: which is a backup 1TB redundant drive server (Synology) but have never used it before.

Edit: Will a disc image copy the whole drive and then you can re-populate it on another drive? Or does it only copy certain files?
If D: is a partition of the disk you're trying to do an image you can't save the image on it. It must be saved on another disk. Save on Z:

Z isn't an option until Monday unfortunately. That Z drive server (backup server) is configured to only be accessible when on the network at work, not from home.

Dumb question but would copy'ing contents of C and pasting to D drive work (including all hidden files)?

IF D: is on same DISK as C: it is useless.
You have a failing DISK not a failing partition.

Well that would make sense then So for future reference, what else outside of bad sectors gives you the indication that your drive is on the brink of failure?

Bad clusters and / or bad sectors is an indication that you have a failing hardware (not software) and there is nothing you can do but to backup your data and replace the disk.
