Network Related PC Reboots

Hi,

I have an interesting problem. My PC started hard rebooting since yesterday at desktop after all the icons have loaded. I can start in safe mode with no issues. I did the following while in safe mode.

- Ran sfc /scannow (no errors detected)
- Malware scans with malwarebytes and superanti-spyware (it found malware and I removed them)
- I did a diskchk /F /R

I could now boot into desktop without is rebooting straight away. Now here are two things I have noticed.

1) It still hard reboots when I open Chrome (Firefox and IE are okay). I have re-installed Chrome but I get the same issue.
2) My network is currently on public but when I try switch to work it hard reboots again.

I have checked for event logs but for some reason the event viewer service was off... I have since enabled it but there are no noticeable errors besides the kernel failure error (from the hard reboot). I also used BlueScreenViewer but the only blue screen was from July 2018.

I have tried updating my Windows to latest build but that also did not help. I also ran "Driver Verifier Manager" but it unfortunately causes Windows to do a boot loop. I also installed a second NIC but it does the same on it.

I am really stumped and open to suggestions. My system specs are updated on my profile. If anything else is required please let me know.

Hi ForgottenAsh, welcome to Seven Forums,

Have you downloaded any other software or updates recently?
Have you looked in the Startup menu to see if anything new has appeared?

Click Start > in the search box type msconfig > press Enter > click the Startup tab?

Have you tried a Restore Point that is prior to the problem starting?

I hope this helps!

welcome to Seven Forums ForgottenAsh

You could try and disable all AddOns from within Chrome. Then launch the browser and see if any symptoms remain.

As an alternative suggestion, since you can start in safe mode, you might want to try a clean boot following this tutorial Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup.

Hi Paul Black

Thanks for your response. Updates were installed 6 days ago. I have tried disabling startup items but I get the same issue. I also tried a restore point from a previous point (ranging from 1 week to a month) but they were always unsuccessful.

Hi Iko22

Chrome crashes Windows as soon as I start it. Is there a way to disable them without starting it? Clean boot also still causes the issue unfortunately. Thanks for your help so far.

Turn off the network router THEN startup the computer. Any difference? Try starting Chrome (with no router on). Any difference?

Definitely try the booting process without the internet connection. Sometimes the malwares are active when there is an internet connection.

Hi all,

Thanks for your suggestions. I tried booting in safe mode with networking and the same issue occurred. I have found a solution however, I re-flashed my BIOS and that seems to have resolved the issue.

Frequent BSOD! perhaps related to network?
I've frequently been getting this BSOD-----> DRIVER_IRQL_NOT-LESS_OR_EQUAL It's happened multiple times, sometimes even when the computer is simply idle, though I've noticed it's been more frequent when I've been downloading large files. This leads me to think perhaps it's network related?...
