Cannot UNLOCK/Change Details of an EXE File

hi everyone,

i am trying to change the details under right-click properties>details tab of a portable .exe file of a freeware program, but have failed to do so so far. i have already gained full ownership, but nothing can be done. i have also tried using these utilities :-

EMCO's UnlockIt (says file has been unlocked, and appears to be so, but it is not).

Malwarebyte's FileAssassin (does not even recognize the file).

LockHunter (LockHunter says the file is not even locked).

NoVirusThanks' File Governor (does not recognize the file as being locked).

***
under security panel, it says EVERYONE - Has Full Control. when i go to Details tab, and try to change some personal particulars or opt to 'create a copy of this file with all possible properties removed', i get the win message 'you must have permission from administrator to perform this action'.

any ideas please?

Only way I can think of is by the use of the "hidden" administrator, You will probably need to enable it before you can use it, but even then it may not be possible, I have seen these type of Markers that are "Hard Wired" into the actual code, it does not follow the rules, [guidelines?], in the Microsoft SDK, but some developers removed, what they considered to be, "excess code" to improve performance or get the software to work with an upgrade of the OS

You probably need to take ownership. Add the right click option to the context menu and try that.

Scroll down to the bottom for the easy one click add options. How to Add “Take Ownership” to the Right-Click Menu in Windows Explorer

all i wanted to change was stuff like 'Product Name/Product Description/Version/Original Filename' cosmetic stuff- the program is freeware anyway.

Software is still copyrighted to the developer even if it is distributed as freeware so it is unlikely that any of the items you mention would be user configurable. an unscrupulous company could then change the freeware details and sell it as their own product.

If it was open source software you might be able to change the details you want to, in the base code and compile your own version, but freeware is still the intellectual property of the developer

of course. but this is for own use. anyway, like i said, the changes i wanted are just cosmetic.
if it can be done, good. if not, no real biggie.
