    Hi RedLad,

    Just for information purposes.

When running chkdsk c: [yes, there is one space there], this is non-invasive read-only and detect mode. Basically, it analyses drive C:\ and reports any errors or corruptions, but doesn’t repair them.

When running chkdsk c: /f [yes, there are two spaces there], this repairs errors on the disk without scanning for any bad sectors. Basically, it does repair any file system errors or corruptions on drive C:\.

    I hope this helps!
Hi Paul, sorry for these silly noobie questions:

When you say space - do you mean chkdsk cspacebar) (spacebar)/f
Like two hit of the spacebar key?

Not a problem at all. We are here to help.

    chkdsk c: /f = chkdsk <spacebar> c: <spacebar> /f

    I hope this helps!

OK so I tried it and upon restart the it just hung on the 'Starting Windows' screen. I left it for about 15 mins but it wasn't getting anywhere so just turned off the PC.

I'm done with it for tonight I will get back to it in the next day or two. Eyes are fried looking at screens all day in work too! Talk soon!

    Hi again!

I did the disk check and it just finished up with 'Windows has finished checking your disks' and it booted up normally.

Does it not even supply a report??!

    Hi Paul,

Just wondering did you get a chance to see my last post?

Do you reckon it is looking like a fresh reinstall for me? I could prob live with it, as I can work. But it would irritate the hell out of me as to why it has happened in the first place.

    Cheers,
    Paul

    Hi RedLad,

I am not at a Win 7 computer at the moment!

I think you can probably get the log file from here => Start => Control Panel => Administrative Tools => Event Viewer => Windows Logs => Application => Filter current log => Select Wininit.

    I hope this helps!
