Any way to list folders and files mixed (sorted by date) in Explorer

I usually use Windows Explorer with the files and folders sorted by descending order of date. This means that the files and folders that are modified, most recently are at the top and are therefore easily accessible.

However, Windows continues to first display all the files sorted by descending order of date and then display all the folders that are sorted by descending order of date.

What I was hoping for was the following:
File 1 October 28, 2018
folder 1 October 28, 2018
File 2 October 27, 2018
Folder 2 October 27, 2018

Instead of this:
File 1, October 28, 2018
File 2, October 27, 2018
Folder 1, October 28, 2018
Folder 2, October 27, 2018

Is there a way to get the first display settings in Windows Explorer?

Hi rvsw,

Does this answer your question? => How do I change the default sort order on Windows Explorer and the File Dialogs.

I hope this helps!

Hello Paul Black
thank you for your response. The link did not help. However, since they were mentioning about View->Options and I could not find it, I I accidentally clicked on Group By . So I figured why not try group by date modified and low and behold, now I see the most recent file and folders first instead of files and folder separately.Eureka !

Thank you for your response and helping me find this. I'm marking this is resolved

I want folders to stay sorted by "Date Modified".
So I have 2 folders on my desktop that I like to keep ordered by "date modified". So I go into the folder, sort it by "date modified", do my business, and exit the folder. After awhile, if I go back into said folder, it forgets that I ordered it by "date modified" and auto orders it by name...

Windows Explorer changing directories on recent folders list
I'm having an issue with Windows Explorer changing from one library directory to another on the recent folders list. Anytime I open a file in a new folder or library, it replaces the existing folder link with the new library and/or folder, instead of creating a new shortcut to the most recently...

Favorites: how to move sub-folders mixed with primary folders
I have somehow made a disastrous mess of my favorites. I looked online for answers to this problem, and all I can find for a solution is cut and paste. This makes no sense to me for this particular issue because there's no way to "un-indent" a sub-folder and move it back in line with the primary...

File folders with mixed up letters, missing files on USB
I am not sure what happened, but certain files and folders are completely missing or are messed up with scrambled letters etc on my USB (using windows 7). I always eject my USB properly, so I don't think it was that. I am guessing it is a volume or index mix up - but how do I fix it? I am trying...
