Here's some info on AVs etc.

Avast Free this is what I use, Anti-virus.
BitDefender Free Edition don’t use but highly recommend
Malwarebytes Premium (it’s a free 30-day trial) If you utilize the free trial, it includes MB anti-exploit & MB anti-ransomware & will remove the standalone versions that you can obtain and install through the below links.
Malwarebytes Free this is what I use, one of the best all-around scanners, period.
BitDefender free, don’t use, but highly recommend, there is also a paid version.
SuperAntiSpyware free, this is what I use, there is also a paid version that runs real-time.
ADWCleaner Malwarebytes recently purchased from Tools.lib, available on both websites
HitmanProx32 scan is free, and one time trial virus removal, you can use Revo Uninstaller
to remove it and trial cookies if it finds malware to remove, then you can use the trial again.
HitmanProx64 scan is free, and one time trial virus removal, you can use Revo Uninstaller to remove it and trial cookies if it finds malware to remove, then you can use the trial again.
Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit this is what I use, real-time exploit protection, drive-bys, ssl injection, etc.
Malwarebytes Anti-Ransomware this is what I use, real-time ransomware protection.
TDSSkiller this is what I use, rootkit scanner.
VirusTotal online multi-AV scanner. If you download the app, it adds entry to right-click context menu. You can right-click on the file you wish to scan, and a couple clicks sends the file to them for analysis

I performed Repair Install successfully. I am now running DISM++ but...there are hundreds of updates. Some of those are already checked by default, some aren't. How should I know which ones should be installed. All of them ? Only the ones that are already checked?

Besides, loosely related to this - when I perform system back up, the back up file (on non-system disc of course) is 190 GB large. So, it takes considerable amount of space on that HD. If I create ISO image does it mean that I could delete that 190 GB back up file or no...?

Glad to here your Repair Install was a success. It was a piece of cake wasn't it! There are a few instances when it will not work, that being when there is considerable component hive corruption and addition pre-repair install steps are needed.

DISM++ provides popups if the update has caused problems, explanation of the issue and a choice to install it or not. Win7 currently has 240+ updates if you use Win Update for installation. DISM++ eliminated installing those that were superseded, thus reducing the number of updates.

As a general rule, I install all updates, that is, unless there is an issue on a particular computer that results from applying an update.

What backup program are you using? Most offer different compression ratios, Macrium Reflect Free, AOMEI Backupper Free are the two I'm most familiar with and we recommend on SevenForums. The greater the compression, the longer it takes as the compression algorithm has more work to do. You can mount the image with either program which creates a virtual disk in Computer and you access it there. You can copy whatever you wish, however, you cannot delete anything from the image.

You could create an ISO image and see how much disk space is used, but don't delete the backup until you're sure it is what you desire. I don't see any advantage doing so, over using the higher compression ratios of a backup program. I don't use Windows backup or restore and have that disabled on my machines. I prefer AOMEI which has a much simpler GUI than Macrium, and they both do what you need. Full image backup, incremental, differential, etc.

External Hard Drives are getting less expensive all the time, you can purchase, Seagate STDR4000100 Backup Plus External HDD - 4 TB - USB 3.0 or something similar as you prefer. This drive is less than $50 US and available from 100+ vendors.

Hm...ok, but can you tell me how is DISM++ any different from WU then? WU also offers me 178 important updates. At the moment I am still reluctant - to install everything via DISM++ or to install everything via WU.

As for the backup, I don't actually use any program. I've backed up system disc via Backup and restore function.

The problem still persists, but not with keyboards shortcuts. For some reason WU failed. Out of 178 important updates only 7 were installed successfully. I'll try install updates via DISM++. (Besides, I can not get wheel scroll to work. Logitech driver did not help. Nor mouse controls in Control panel).

Temporarily stop Win Updates while your using DISM++ so that they both aren't trying to download updates.

When you select updates with DISM++ those that have been an issue for others has a popup that appears with an explanation of what the issue is/was and you can choose to continue (the checkbox for install remains checked or cancel)

Not sure why you're still experiencing problems with your hardware. Do you have access to another mouse you could try to determine if it's a mouse issue with the one you're currently using?

Of course, I do not try to download updates both ways simultaneously. Neither WU nor DISM can install all those updates. The problem seems to be Internet Explorer 11. I tried to install only that program by downloading it from Microsoft Download center, but to no avail.

Btw, my default browser is Firefox. I don't use IE8 at all, or maybe once a month or so, when I have problems with FF. I just tried to uninstall IE8 but that program is NOT listed among Program> Programs and Features. But it IS here in Start menu and is functioning.

I use FF as well.

I didn't say you were trying to install from both, I suggested that you temporarily stop Win Update from downloading the same updates that DISM++ is trying to download (when using DISM++).

Updates should be an issue now, but, apparently is it. I need to peruse the CBS.log
Would you please upload it
location: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS

Yes it can be like this sometimes.

Did you try another mouse?
Boot into safe mode and see if you still have the mouse and keyboard key issues.

To boot into safe mode:
Start Computer and immediately begin pressing <F8> choose Safe mode or Safe mode with networking.

Taskbar keyboard shortcuts don't work for me
I've read that the shortcut to access items in your task bar is windowkey + (1-9) depending on the placement of the app from the start button. I've tried it, but no luck. When I press the combination, nothing happens. Does this work for anybody else? Am I doing something wrong? I love the idea of...
