Why shouldn't I switch to Windows 10 now? Why is 7 the preferred OS?

Just wondering: Why shouldn't I switch to Windows 10 now? Why is 7 the preferred OS? I'm a newbie to operating systems, and genuinely prefer Windows 7's overall style and feel over Windows 10, but I know Windows 10 is supposed to be faster and overall more smooth than Windows 7. I'm a casual gamer and programmer, so I'd like to hear why others do not upgrade to Windows 10.

Ten is more stable and is rewritten with big updates every 6 months. & is old now and sooner or later there wontbe drivers and support for it. You can customize 10 to look like 7 mostley. Its certainley is faster and more supported by everyone

The major privacy invasion and forced updates keep me from 10 right now. 10 even has a built-in keylogger. It can be turned off supposedly, but that's not the point.

When the time comes I have to run 10 I'm installing a hardware-based firewall and blocking all of M$'s ASNs. Then I'll watch the firewall for in/out traffic and block anything else that's not suppose to be going in/out of my computer. I don't even use updates now as it is unless I need one to fix something. Never been hacked, got malware or any of those scare tactics. If I need an update in 10 I'll download it via my VPN.

They modeled 10 after an asinine smartphone. Well, they are smart alright. Smarter than you with constant analytics, etc. It's a marketer's wet dream come true.

7 generally works better on some older, Vista-era computers than 10. The invasive privacy issues with 10 are also a turnoff.
Plus with things like the recent patch that was released last month and such that deleted personal files, it doesn't make a good impression on people who're already accustomed to 7 and see no issue with it.

Most things doable in 10 are doable in 7 too.

With win 10, one day you turn on the computer and it begin to install a new version and you can't work for two hours. And it happens more often than anyone could expect.
Then you have the privacy assault. Most of them you can turn off but then most programs don't work.

Thanks everyone for the insights. I'll eventually purchase a Windows 10 computer and keep this all in mind

This discussion has been going on for months here. You can find multiple threads on the topic. There are people here that are on both sides of the fence. Some people love 10. Others despise it and won't use it. The best advise I can say is to do some research on the pros and cons and decide for yourself if it is worth it. You might want to check out tenforums. Windows 10 contains spyware and adware. Windows 7 SP1 updated to say 2014-215 doesn't. And the interface doesn't s*ck as much.

You could always use Win 10 in a VM to see if you get on with it and like it!

    2 hours?
    You must have been lucky.

When I tried to update my W10 Pro VM (from 1703 to 1709) it made multiple failed attempts.
After 12 hours it had filled the entire VHD with broken copies of 1709.

I restored it to 1703 and blocked it from the Internet.
It has run flawlessly ever since.

In any case I don't need any updates for W10, as my main PCs still run good old rock solid W7.
    Note:
I stopped updating my W7 PCs after the Spectre & Meltdown patch fiasco at the start of this year.
