Computer reverts to desktop screen every 15 minutes

    Hey,

I've had this computer for about 5 years, and over the past two years I have been having a problem. The computer goes back to the desktop every 15 minutes, though the programs continue running. This used to come with a message that my copy of windows was not genuine- but it came with computer as I bought it. I think this is probably some automatic update or something, but I haven't found out how to turn it off.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi Randomrage,

If its a black background, not your normal one, its a side effect of the Non-genuine issue.
    MS DO THIS ON PURPOSE.

run the Mgadiag tool, from here, post the results

    Hi RandomRage,

Looks like MS has blocked your key, see the later part of the report

    Windows Activation Technologies-->
    HrOnline: 0xC004C532

I suspect its an MSDN key, these are not for resale usage.

the key ending XM76F showing at the top of the report is the default and can never be activated, it will not be the key used to originally activate the OS.

Is there a COA sticker on the comp??
If so and its for W7 Home Premium AND the same manufacturer as your machine try it.

    OR
when you bought it did it come with installation/repair discs - is there a code on the packaging.

For information- Is it okay to leave posts up which provide the computer key? If it were a valid key I would want to delete the attachment.

    Hi @wither 2,

The information provided by the tool NEVER includes the complete code
You are correct the COMPLETE code should not be placed anywhere on the web.
    There are exceptions -
the OEM base code that is installed during manufacture
    Default product keys
(and these are all over the Net)

    Roy

if you havn,t used your COA key yours is

    Hey torchwood,

I tried the COA on the stamp outside the computer when prompted to activate online, but it gave me this Error Code: 0x8004FE34.

In any case, thank you for the help so far.

Oh, I forgot to mention. Could this problem stem from rebooting the computer and giving the user a different name? Is doesn't seem to make sense that the key would only work for the computer as is. Perhaps the Windows key was only good for a few years, but nowhere in the product information does it say that.

I once had an issue where one of the Windows services crashed and after rebooting I got the non-genuine warning.
However in my case it fixed itself after another reboot.
