What's better Windows 7 or Windows 7 SP1 for computer

Hello everybody. I want to install Windows 7 on the old lap top. I was wondering is it better to install Windows 7 which I downloaded on 2010 (that Windows don't contains SP1) or Windows 7 SP1?

What's you opinion?

Would Windows 7 without SP1 work easier on old machine?

You definately need to use the Win SP1.

NOTE: The light blue text below are links to the relevant websites and programs, just click them!

You will need your Product Key for the version of Windows that you are re-installing. This is the ONLY version that you will be able to activate. On a laptop, it will either be on a sticker on the bottom, or in the battery compartment. If the sticker is too worn to read, or there isn't one, then you can retrieve it by either using Belarc Advisor or Magic Jelly Bean. Write this Product Key down and keep it in a safe place.

You will need either a Win 7 SP1 installation disk or a Win 7 SP1 ISO. If you don't have either of these, you can download the latest and last Windows [Final] > Windows 7 SP1 [build 7601] > Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 ISO [build 6.1.7601 - July 2009] file from TechBench [make sure you select the correct language and bit type]. It is recommended that you download the Win 7 Ultimate SP1 ISO because all versions of Win 7 can be made available from it. This is achieved by creating a folder on the desktop and then unzipping the ISO into it using 7-Zip, and then delete the ei.cfg file in the sources folder. Alternatively, you can run the eicfg_removal_utility against the downloaded ISO. If the version of Windows you are installing is Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate, then there is NO need to remove the ei.cfg file as instructed above.

You can either then update the ISO with the WU's [Windows Updates] using DISM++ and then create a new install ISO, or you can install the ISO as it is and then update the LIVE OS using DISM++.

I hope this helps!

Nope, and you definitely should use SP1. If your machine can't handle Win 7, you will need to upgrade components (RAM should be at least 4GB) or replace the machine.

Hello All,

I run Windows 7 Professional 64bit SP1 on a 2011 Dell Optiplex 380 desktop the one in my signature.

It runs like a bat out of hell without complaints.
I agree with the others you need to install and run SP1.

Running Windows 7 without SP1 would be a really bad idea.
Security updates would not install. You would be limited to older versions of Internet Explorer which should be kept up to date even if you do not use it. Other modern browsers would not install. Virtually no security software would work. Only old versions would install and they would not receive updates. And without SP1 and security updates security software would be of limited value anyway.

You should also install KB3125574 Convenience Rollup for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (effectively SP2).
