    Hi Paul,

Not sure you seen another post in the 'Graphics Cards' section by me, but I wanted to ask you here, if you would have any ideas how I would go about fixing it?

    Pixar's RenderMan & Maya - NVIDIA Quadro K4200

Or if not, would you be able to point me in the direction of someone who may know? I have posted in the Pixar forum also, so hoping to hear back there soon too.

This issue is seriously doing my head in!

    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hi again,

Would someone be able to answer a few questions I had please?

    1. What is the ideal network setups to have on Windows 7. This is in relation to the Home/Public settings. I am nearly sure I clicked on 'Home' option upon setup. But in Control Panel, under Networks and Internet, it says 'there is currently no homegroup on the network.' Is this a good or bad thing?

    2. When I went to plug in my second monitor, it is taking control and acting as if it is the main monitor. The secondary one is connected through the older connections, not sure of their exact name.

The main one, is connected through a mini display port to display port, I am nearly sure that is what the cable is called anyway.

Can the order/way in which these monitors are connected have any impact on the graphics card at all? Reason I ask is because I read a post on Pixar forum where a guy said his secondary monitor was constantly crashing Maya when it was connected.

So any advice on how they should be connected would be ideal. Thanks,
    Paul

Hi everyone, this is the same post from my one in the Graphics Card section.

I have made some very promising progress on getting RenderMan to work in Maya and would like to share the story, if it helps others.

What did i do? Upgraded to Windows 10! I had previously tried to upgrade to 10, only for it to tell me it could not be installed on my PC. Since then, after wiping the PC and resigning to staying on Windows 7, I updated the BIOS along with drivers etc. So there a few hours ago after still seeing how bad RenderMan was still performing in Maya, I took a chance to try the Windows 10 upgrade again....and it worked this time! I guess the BIOS update had a hand in that.

Firstly, WOW, the difference in speed is actually INSANE! Now this is what I expected. IPR is really flying now. Very, very responsive with not one sign of the problems I had in Windows 7. Lights/meshes etc being able to be selected in the viewports, being able to move them. Zero lag, zero memory spikes, zero random freezes. It is so zippy and responsive. I cannot tell you how happy I am to see this. I knew the performance I was getting in Windows 7 had to be just untrue. It was close to unusable.

Just wanted to share this, I am chuffed. Thanks to sevenforums user Paul Black for all of his help to get my machine up and running in Windows 7, but now I will be using 10 from now on.

    Cheers,

    Paul

I am delighted that you have finally got a working system.

I think the fact that after the re-install of Win 7, you had a stable OS [and new BIOS] which allowed you to install Win 10 without any problems. I would suggest that the pre-install system was corrupt in some way and therefore would not allow you to run the upgrade!

    Cheers Paul.

It will take a while to iron out little kinks. For example I couldn't get online as my WiFi adapter didn't work. So I clicked on 'Troubleshoot this' and it fixed it. But it keeps going back to not working. So I think I will prob have to manually fix this with another method.

Little things like that, but I am sure they are all fixable :)

Thanks so much for all of your help Paul! (and patience)
