Are you able to get to Task Manager (cntrl-alt-delete) when this happens to possibly see if some service or process is periodically hogging resources?

I have the same issue. Started just after last few rounds of Win 7 updates. Random, but generally when internet or browser being used, but not necessarily when interacting/working online.
Mouse and keyboard act as if dead. So could be some sort of USB port or driver incompatibility with something in one of those Win 7 updates. Not able to get to task manager or logs to see what is running once it happens. Have to hard shut down computer, thus evoking the DOS screen choice to "Start Windows normally" . Once Win 7 is loaded, the Desktop Background Taskbar is not loaded to user preference. Requires another Restart and then seems to work OK until if freezes again. Same results whether or not "Restore OS to previous version" of the OS or "Start Win normally" is selected. Screenshot of those Win 7 updates: https://drive.google.com/open?id=17k...0bgfmN1qgZHJ78 |

I can safely assert that it is not a heat issue on the part of the CPU, Motherboard, Graphics Card/CPU, or Hard Drive. Speccy does not monitor Memory, or at least I do not have a thermister in the memory bank. Whilst my temps are not optimum (case needs a good cleaning) they are well within acceptable running ranges of 75 F - 100 F. In the past I had issues with the CPU Cooler, so I know how the computer acts when CPU gets hot. This is nothing like that. |

Ditto. Buckalou, By chance does your system have more in common with mine? Say the same brand or even make of Video Card? See my profile for PC Specs.

Ahhh. Oh well, then that pretty much tends to lean on Win & x 64 OS, or one of those recent updates as the culprit. Do you have all of those Win 7 Updates as shown in my screenshot in prior post? If not up to which one do you have installed.
Is you motherboard an ASUS? My suspicions are it is either: 1) A USB controller driver compatibility issue with latest updates. 2) A Video Card compatibility issue with latest updates. 3) Mother board compatibility issue with latest updates. 4) Still could be some random heat issue as I had not monitored the temps using Speccy when this occurs. Yet PC has run for hours and not a problem overheating while monitoring it. 5) Also could be that we both just happen to have a coincidental broken component. Not really sure. However I checked the Device Manager and all of my USB controller and video devices appear to be working; at least none are flagged with yellow question mark. Still need to run full diagnostics and look through logs on everything though. |

Hello just wanted to drop in and say that I'm having
the same random lock-up issue that you both are having. @techmanhou I am running an ASUS motherboard, though I think we have different specific ones. Only thing I can add is that my problems, though random, seem to happen the most when just browsing the internet (Firefox) (twitter) in addition to having Discord open. |

And mine as well. Asus M/B. Totally random black screen then it tries to restart but fails. Occasionally going into a loop of restarts. Happy New Year..

Could the common denominator be a Windows update? Did everyone here with this issue install an update that was just released when these freezes started to happen?

I've been having random freezes as well, that started after the last round of updates. I've uninstalled both updates, first one at a time, then both, that installed (sorry, did not make note of update numbers), yet the crashes are still happening. I will fiddle around more this weekend.

Computer freezing multiple times a day with no recognisable pattern. Hello everyone, First of all, I know that this isn't a BSOD issue but I wasn't sure about where else to post this thread. Like the title says, my computer screen freezes with mouse movement and numlock / capslock activation until I ctrl+alt+del and then even those stop but the audio (if I was... |

My pc has been randomly freezing periodically and follows no pattern. For months now my pc has been subject to random crashes. I need to power down my pc every time this happens because it becomes unresponsive after this happens and I have no idea why. I've cleared the '%temp%' and the 'c:\windows\temp' folders already and I have my admin events in a compressed... |

BSOD Random with no pattern I have been struggling with BSOD since my PC was built. I have reinstalled from scratch but it still continues with no obvious pattern, often while the PC is idle and sometimes when shutting down. I use it mainly for media so it regularly happens in WMP as per the last two crashes in the logs. ... |

Intermittent BSOD very random pattern As you can see I've had quite a few in the last few weeks. All drivers are up to date using Driver Genius, EXCEPT the video driver. The latest caused most of the consecutive BSOD, and did not stop until I rolled back the driver. Now they come during browser based heavy flash use. I used a... |
