    Hi Rowin,

Vista (Recovery) and W7 (OS/Data) bootloaders are different, which is also why its screwing up the repair install.
YOU NEED to get rid of it

Copy your C/D OS and data using Macrium etc, exclude the Recovery partition

    Then Reinstall from the back-up,

    Roy
I need to know how to do that in DOS, please. I've done it only in windows. And why do you think the Recov Part would be screwing it up after it ran smoothly for a month? It had to be some garbage from Win Update.

    Hi Rowin7,

    you said

I've run the Startup Repair 6 times, which should have been enough. The root cause has officially been found as "because of unspecified changes."

Those unspecified changes are the Vista recovery partition verses the W7 ~OS setup
(please read the copy/re-install info on your desired Back-up tool Macrium etc, EXCLUDE a partition)

This is all due to you NOT cleanly installing W7 and ONLY came into play during the repair.

I know how to use Macrium only in Windows. How would I use it in DOS?

I have Macrium installed already, as I use it to image this machine. And they both have Win7 ULT SP1. The Gateway is another backup, not just for data, but to use if this one is sick. That's why I didn't have an image of that one.

I don't know if the Win 10 tools will work on it. Will get back to you when done with Macrium.

As the tools are on a boot able disk, it doesn't matter the OS it's on.
