You can use check disk just to check it, without fixing any problems (chkdsk c:). The /f (chkdsk c: /f) is to fix the problems it encounter. Under Windows, as the disk is in use, it cant be done. That is why it must be done on a startup.

On the check disk log, look for bad clusters and/or bad blocks.

Running H2testw was inconclusive.

Megahertz07

The following images, 1 thru 6 represent the results I recd when I initiated H2testw to test the Samsung 256 mg micro SD formatted in ex FAT. (The drive was clean as per instructions I formatted as ex FAT.)

NOTE: somehow the forum uploaded images 2&3 out of order?

Sorry if I seem discombobulated as I'm not seeing what I expect to see & you have been patient and I don't want to waste your time.

Thanks & Regards,

klxdrt

Try to format he SD as Fat32 or NTFS

To format as Fat32
Open a CMD window as admin and type:
format /FS:FAT32 /Q K: (replace K with the drive letter)

To format as NTFS
Open a CMD window as admin and type:
format /FS:NTFS /Q K: (replace K with the drive letter)

The file 1.h2, 2.h2......500.h2 are the files h2testw.exe create to test the drive. After the test you can delete all them

Every SD card has a natural (or default) format.
SD cards are normally used on portable devices as cameras. Normally cameras use Fat32 format.

eFat is universal. Mac, Linux and Windows can read/write on them.
If you're using as a storage on your computer I would format as NTFS that has a allocation table more robust.

Alright, here goes the tale of how I ended up hating myself for not making a backup last week as I had planned: My hard disk layout is pretty simple, I have a 500gb Western Digital as main drive, a 500gb Maxtor where I keep pretty much everything, and an older and not totally relyable 300gb...
