The thumbnails I was referring to were the images in your screen shot of drive L:.

If you're getting the green bar on your C: drive with those other drives disconnected, it may be a power supply issue. The only other suggestion I could make is to try a SATA port different than the one you're using for the C: drive. I don't have a drive larger than 2 TB so I can't say how long it takes to read a 4 TB drive. It shouldn't be excessive for SATA. The L: drive green bar may be related to the USB connection difference.

Got to go do some personal stuff so I won't be back until later or until tomorrow.

If you want to re-install Windows, go for it. However, I would back up my personal files first, if you're doing a full install or simply do a Windows repair.

No I didn't go reinstall. I am missing a few cd's. I can't find my MB cd. I had it built in 2013. Who knows where they are.

How big are the image files?

If you have a stack of multi-megapixel images, it will take a long time to generate thumbnails.

    I have a folder with ~2000, 1920x1080 wallpaper images that are 2 MB - 3MB in size.
It takes Windows a couple of minutes to generate thumbnails for them.

Does MB mean motherboard? Don't know why you would need that for a Windows reinstallation or repair. I assume you can get the mobo drivers from ASUS.

I like the response from lehnerus2000.

Anywhere from 3MB to 24MB. Just photos I take. But it's not only those. Even if I download a 13kb picture, I can't see it.
It goes for any file, it does not have to be a picture. Even the folders disappear, but the name stays there.
