Files, Folders missing, misplaced when teracopying to SD chip.

W7 PRO 32 bit on 2 identically configured PCs

This is going to sound crazy. Much "convalut'n" going on here, hope I got it right. The only new element in this scenario is the Samsung 256 mg micro SD chip. Last yr I've moved many TB of files with TERACOPY 3.26 with virtually no errors. TERACOPY is set to overight older files.

    1) I just copied a few files from a PC using TERACOPY to a new Samsung 256 mg micro SD chip.

    2) When I checked to see if the FILES ended up in the correct folder on the Samsung 256 mg micro SD chip, FILES were not there. Did a FILE search with a file search program I've successfully before & it worked fine searching thru several TB of data quickly. Could not locate lost, missing FILES.

    3) Made a note of the FILE names. Then did a Teracopy of all my working files on the PC to the Samsung 256 mg micro SD chip & 2 FOLDER's several layers down showed up in the root dir of my working files. Then I moved the 2 misplaced FOLDER's to where they belonged in the first place. And thought I'd check for the missing files from #1 above, files were in the correct folders???

    4) Any Ideas what's going on here?

    Regards,

If you use built in robocopy that gives a report at the end could files be locked or in use?

    Some questions:
    - What are you trying to copy, data files, system files or a both?
    - How is the SD formatted, Fat32 or NTFS?

Did you tested the SD to see if is good? Seen many fake drives, specially the big ones.
Test it with Download H2testw 1.4
It will write and read till the SD is full (will take a day)

    Hi,

Thanks for getting back quickly. The SD card is a Samsung 256 mg micro SD formated in ex FAT. Actual SD below.

I only copy 17,584 (data only) files in 1,737 folders. This represents a smaller # of files using Teracopy.
Have copied TB of files back & forth USB drives with no loss in the past.

Downloaded installed h2testw. Will run when ! have 24 hr free on my PCs.

Also put a shortcut on desktop, then found out using it requires old fashion DOS switches? Teracopy is easy and I the oprton to "copy only older files" which is what I use. Much like the old xcopy. I used it quite a bit in the 80's. Is it still around as it would just what I need.

NOTE: I came across the "missing file" situation copying 2 files on my laptop which has a 256 SSD. Found the files using FastFileSearch.exe.

H2testw don't need to install. Extract to any folder and run. Select English (original is Germany).

As you're having some copy problems, it may be your source disk.
Do a check disk. Open a CMD window as admin and type:
chkdsk x: /f (replace x with the source disk letter)

On the SD drive, on witch folder you're copying to? Remember that the max path length is 256 characters.

You have to launch the CMD as Admin. Right click on the CMD shortcut and you'll see Run as Administrator.

As your drive is in use it will ask if you want to schedule to next boot=Yes
    Reboot

    Megahertz07,

Thanks for the help. I ran chkdsk as admin on the 256 SD & laptop C: SSD drive. Below are the results:

Checking the C drive re-booted but did not show results like the L SD drive.

Looks like the results show both drives seem to be OK. FYI: Both my PCs have SSD drives about 4-5 yr old.

The C: check disk log you can find using Event viewer (%windir%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s)
How To Extract The Check Disk (CHKDSK) Logs From Event Viewer on Windows

You must check the SD with H2testw.

    Megahertz07,

I was able to bring up & view event viewer but saw a lot of events that mean nothing to me. Ive used w7 for 5-6 yr and rank chkdsk regularly and was always presented with a std screen of results. Have used all ver of win from win/wworkgroups on nad was able to run chkdsk with out all this kludginess. Same for DOS 2.0 on thru Dr Dos.

Is this what innovation gives us?

I'll run H2testw when I have time to run it on my dsktop for 24 hr?

What should I look for when I get the event viewer up?

    Thanks for you help.
