Some general questions after a new install of Windows 7

Hi everyone,

Would someone be able to answer a few questions I had please?

1. What is the ideal network setups to have on Windows 7. This is in relation to the Home/Public settings. I am nearly sure I clicked on 'Home' option upon setup. But in Control Panel, under Networks and Internet, it says 'there is currently no homegroup on the network.' Is this a good or bad thing?

2. When I went to plug in my second monitor, it is taking control and acting as if it is the main monitor. The secondary one is connected through the older connections, not sure of their exact name.

The main one, is connected through a mini display port to display port, I am nearly sure that is what the cable is called anyway.

Can the order/way in which these monitors are connected have any impact on the graphics card at all? Reason I ask is because I read a post on Pixar forum where a guy said his secondary monitor was constantly crashing Maya when it was connected.

So any advice on how they should be connected would be ideal. Thanks,

win 8 32 bit

You don't want home group as it's now been dropped by Microsoft it's still in 7 but the fact they dropped it says it all. Depending on your display adapter you can choose which display is main and if you want to mirror to the other or have it separately

Win7 pro x64

start>run>desk.cpl>enter gets you to the screen where you can choose which is your main display, don't forget to click Apply. Advanced settings on that page will tell you which graphics controller runs that display. In the uncommon case that you have two video cards I would make sure the more powerful graphics adapter runs the main display, although chances are you have just one graphics adapter and it controls both displays, so it should not matter which one is the main one. For simplicity's sake, I prefer to have the same resolution on both displays.
