dell laptop shuts down during a fresh windows install no errors report

i took the chance and bought a broken dell vostro 3560 red i7 3632QM, the problem with it was no power, no lights at all when the charger gets plugged in the charger's light goes off, so i took it for motherboard repairs where the technician replaced 6 mosfets and other chips on the board so i got it back and proceed to power it up and install windows 7, firstly it didn't want the GPT partition so i converted the HDD to MBR, all well windows started loading files and the bar proceeds to full (laptop shuts down) and then past the copying files stage then expanding files the furthest it got was to 9% (laptop shuts down) and sometimes in between the laptop just shuts down on it's own but when i power up the laptop and just leave it idling it does not shut down at all, i did post into bios and run full system diagnostics with no errors found, later i noticed the power flex ribbon had a broken wire on the side between the four wires. what i also have done when seeing the laptop shut down was i removed all flex ribbons from the motherboard except power button, HDD, speakers, cpu fan,lcd screen and the second part of the motherboard which olugs in and goes to the usb and network ports. i have given up now because all the wires broke off from the power flex cable, but i would still love to fix this laptop, it's a nice machine still 4 cores 8 threads cpu and decent graphics. i can get into the bios without any issues, the HDD i have is formatted to MBR i got the laptop with the HDD and RAM removed where i had spare ram by me, i contacted the guy i bought it from to find out exactly which RAM he had in the laptop still waiting for an answer on that he i away till sunday. any suggestions would be great thank you all

Well, the obvious solution right now would be to fix the power flex ribbon as you call it. And if there are any olther connections that need to be made, fix those as well.

No idea why you can't create a GPT partition.

I hope it didn't cost you much to have the motherboard repaired. Because at that point you more than likely could have bought a good working used Vostro 3560 on eBay.

This is the RAM you need. If you place your cursor over the picture it will zoom in and you can see the number. 4GB RAM for Dell Vostro 3560 | eBay

yes i'm considering replacing the power button, just wanted to get some info first before dishing out more money, i paid R1200 south african currency to get the board fixed the guy i took it too didn't qoute me he just went and fixed it even after i asked him if over R500 we should leave the repairs, because i saw on ebay a 0RDH49 board for R1770 half the price of a complete laptop, and about the ram, i inserted 2RLx8 PC3-12800 not 1RL is that much of a difference it was DDR3 ram stick

i wanted to get some more info first before i spend more money into buying a power button, the ram i installed we're 2R not 1R is there any difference as both is DDR3?
all i know on the GPT and MBR partitions is GPT is used for the newer HDD and MBR which is a all round better option for any drive are for older laptops and or HDD's.
i took the board for repairs where the guy went on fixing it without my consent after instructions if above R500 (south african rand currency) not to proceed with repairing the board for the reason there is a board on ebay for R1770 that half less the price for the same laptop, so the guy charged me R1200 for that so i took it believing all will be fine and i can install windows, may it be the ram difference, i'm gonna check into that now, the 1R and 2R difference
    thank you for replying

Hello etiennenel, welcome to seven forums,

The computer will only boot on a GPT partition if it is running UEFI BIOS. If your motherboard only supports legacy BIOS then it will be unable to boot onto a GPT formatted disk.

The computer usually restarts two or three times when undergoing a fresh install.

    Does that help you?

so that means the board is fine it's probably the gpt or mbr issue, i installed when the drive was in gpt format and tried numerous times when i done some searching and changed it to mbr format, i tried that both in legacy and UEFI on both occasions

    Welcome to the Forum.

    - Don't worry about converting the HDD to Legacy-MBR. Boot from the win 7 installation disk, go to Install - Advanced - delete ALL partitions - create new. It will create the necessary partitions (MS -120M- RAW and a big NTFS) Choose to install on the big NTFS.

    - Shut down during installation can be due to many things, but as you have a i7 that generates a lot of heat, it can be that the CPU is overheating and it shuts down to protect it self. Is the fan running and is the heat sink dust free?

yes i have cleaned all the old paste off and pasted it up again but i measured it with a laser gun and if correct it measured well below high temperatures with the fan running, maybe i should call it a day for this laptop i tried and failed and learned something through this and sell the parts from the laptop, i looked a lot of sites and i don't get any one selling the power button nor any motherboards in my country, if i buy those through ebay it's gonna take months to arrive and then it's going to be at a loss, can't keep it as i already have 3 laptops, the only issue i have is with installing the OS nothing else, thank you

Does the laptop came from a person living by the sea?
I have in my hands one that failed by corrosion due to sea salt.
