Windows 7 "windows is resuming" logon screen.

Very rarely, sometimes, when resuming from hibernation, rather than going straight to the desktop after the boot screen, I see a windows logon screen with the text "Windows is Resuming" for a few seconds before the desktop appears.

This isn't a problem for me, but, could this be a leftover from Windows XP?

Where as Hibernation saves all your open documents and programs on your hard disk and then turns off your computer, Sleep puts all your work and settings in memory and therefore only uses a small amount of power and will come alive much quicker. Coming out of hibernation is like booting the comouter and therefore will take a moment or two. Although you shouldn't really have a problem as you have 16GB of RAM!

I personally always use Sleep, for me at least it is much quicker and I have never had a problem with any of the machines I use.

I am aware of that. There are multiple reasons why I use Hibernation rather than Standby or Hyper Sleep.
What I'm just confused at is, usually, after the boot screen, there is a black screen for a few seconds, then, the desktop appears, as expected.
But very rarely, after the boot screen and the black screen, the logon screen shows up with the text "Windows is resuming..." for a few seconds, then the desktop shows up.
I haven't been able to find any images of it online, but it's basically the Welcome screen with "Welcome" replaced with "Windows is resuming...".
What causes this? Is it a leftover from Windows XP? (which always had a logon screen with this text after resuming from hibernation)

When you boot from a previous hibernation, it doesn't do a normal boot. It reads the C:/hiberfil.sys that contains all memory data that was on it before the hibernation and loads this data back to memory. That is why C:/hiberfil.sys is the same size of your available memory.
The message "Windows is Resuming" should be "Windows is Resuming from hibernation"

I am aware of how hibernation works.
I am not talking about the boot process.
I am talking about after the boot process, when you get to the desktop.

Usually, the resume process goes like this: "Resuming Windows 7" boot screen>>blinking cursor>>black screen with mouse pointer>>desktop.

But on rare occasions, it goes like this: "Resuming Windows 7" boot screen>>blinking cursor>>black screen with mouse pointer>>"Windows is resuming..." welcome screen for a few seconds>>desktop.

Notice the part in bold. That's the part that only happens very rarely (it has only started doing it since December, and has only happened 2 or 3 times so far). What causes this? A process or service that has frozen for a short while?

This has just happened again today. I'm interested in finding out what causes this screen.

This screen has appeared more frequently recently. I think it may be something to do with power, as it sometimes happens when I unplug the PC from the wall. However it doesn't always happen when I do that.

Of course, this isn't the direct reason. Unplugging the PC from the wall does something to the RAM I'm assuming, and something about that Windows doesn't like when resuming from hibernation. Perhaps it's a service that's taking to long to start.

As I said, this isn't an issue, I'm just interested in what causes this.

Update: This is not caused by the power supply, as I've found. I'm still unsure what exactly causes this alternate resume process though.
