Why does blue circle spin for 30 seconds before menu window appears?

Why does blue circle spin for 30 seconds before menu window appears? Only happens when working with the 'Save picture as' function.

Right clicking on a picture in IE 11 to 'save picture as' to a folder or any location, there are other pictures in the folder and I right click on one to see what it is. The 'blue circle of death' spins for 20 to 30 seconds before the menu window opens. This just started about 4 to 5 months ago. Prior to this time period the window would appear instantaneously. This is extremely annoying when trying to get things done quickly. Wouldn't mind if I had all day to wait around for things to happen.

Anyone have a clue as to what is going on (?) and how to fix or repair what ever function controls this ? Hope I'm not in the wrong category to post this and if I am please direct me to the correct one.

Have included a screen shot as an example.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Welcome to the forum. If you try and save the photo then once saved try and save again does it open quick the second time? If it's fast second time it's because the disk is cached so it would indicate what's causing it is the disk. It may be slow disk, fragmented, or it's swapping memory out. With an SSD drive you shouldn't get the same problem

Thanks for your response. Someone else suggested that the hard drive is dying. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm in a location(folder) in the HD or a thumb drive.

Where is the disk cached at? Is there a way to isolate where exactly the fault lies?

Is the 'save picture' a Windows program or is it in IE 11?

I usually defrag about once a month.

Goto the maker of the hds site they normally have a test program specific for their drive see if that shows any problems

Have you tried running the Disk Cleanup utility in Accessories, System Tools? If not, run it on your C: drive. When it says how much space it can free up, check the boxes for Temporary Files and Empty Recycle Bin. Let it run and, when finished, reboot.

Does that help?

If you have a hard drive, it might be worth doing a defrag after the reboot.

There are other options, once you've done that.
