There are free tools which modify everything about windows 10 so it looks and works like windows 7. Classic Explorer which is a part of Classic Shell, Winaero tweaker has an explorer subsection, and OldNewExplorer all have features to change explorer. And in tenforums Brink has dozens of reg files you can run to customize the win10 interface including explorer.

Thanks.
Yes, I've collected a bunch of these over the last few weeks but I don't recall seeing anything that changes the appearance of W10 folders.
Damn shame M$ won't bring out a kit to do all this in one hit. I'm sure they'd woo over lots of diehard 'seveners'.

And every time I check out a YouTube video that was recorded on WinX, the screens are so bland I have trouble understanding what's going on.

Now, if WinX could be made to look, and behave, exactly the same as W7, I wouldn't hesitate to get onboard.
Then you don't need Win10 at all. 7 acts and looks exactly like 7, and with Classic Shell, I have it looking like XP, but with the better security of 7. Win-win. BTW--I always ignore the themes, go into the Appearance and make my own color schemes. Don't know if you can do this in 10, but I've substituted my own folder using a tutorial here, because I like crisp icons. The original is an .ico, but I converted it to .jpg to upload it here.

There's also a program called Folder Painter which will give you colored folders in a variety of styles in Windows Explorer. I've been playing with my icons and color schemes for years, because it deludes me that I'm actually controlling my computer.

But that wouldn't change all the bugs still remaining in 10 and the spyware M$ has put in. It's like a bridge that needs major structural repairs rather than just a new paint job.

Johnhoh: "could you post a pic of exactly what you are referring to when you say the appearance of win10 vs win7 folders?"
Sorry, I can't - I don't have a running install of W10 ATM because I'm working on 'W7-on-an-Asus Z370 mobo', as we've discussed in this thread - 310 chipset question.

Lance1: Thanks for the link. Looks interesting (if I decide to go with WinX )

RoWin7: Three excellent posts, thanks. BTW, did you know it's possible to have a quick-launch bar in W7? And there's also an easy way to change the default user folder so that any subsequent new users will have exactly the same setup as your tweaked one. Let me know if you want the doc.
I take your point about W10 being buggy. Great analogy

I've never used the Quick Launch, takes up to much valuable real estate in the taskbar. I keep often-used programs on the desktop and above the program menu:

There are no other users of my machines, but thanks.

I'm staying with WIN7 and not Win10
I installed Windows 10 on my travel touchscreen laptop because it has Windows 8.1. It works OK but my desktop will stay Windows 7 as long as I can. I feel Win7 is very stable and for most regular users it works well. How about you? Will you stay with Win7 and not upgrade?
