    Rebuilding a Win7 Profile

    Hi

I have tried to recover my windows profile using the instruction at the link below

User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

However, it does not work and just resets the .bak extension in the registry then loads a virgin profile.

So what I need now is to know if there is a way to copy the following from files and or registry

    1. MS Outlook 2010 - email account collection details as well as to make it collect only mail it has not already collected.

    2. Desktop look and feel including start bars

3 Firefox bookmarks, history with look and feel, extensions etc

I essentially want to copy the old profile over a virgin one, I have tried utilities that are supposed to do this but they do not work.

If someone has the registry keys that need to be copied I would be grateful (note I cannot log in as the user)

    Many thanks

If you cannot log in as the user, or the tutorial does not work, then you are stumped.

Re: Firefox--it doesn't use the registry. Just copy the contents of your old profile to the new one, and it will replace the defaults. Don't copy the whole profile folder, only the contents, because the new folder has a different name.

I've had this happen several times on Windows 8 when I was using that and on Windows 7. Solution is always the same, you create a new user, and *MOVE* all of the files in your user folder, SAVE FOR all of the NTUSER.DAT files and everything else in the -->root<-- of your user folder, to you new folder - While in Safe Mode! And then you have to delete the appropriate reg key which the tutorial says to delete. Were you in Safe Mode when you moved all of those files? Won't work otherwise...

Gotta remember, to MOVE the contents, not just copy em. Also , ya gotta be in the safe mode ADMINISTRATOR account when you do this. Go through that tutorial with a fine tooth comb, I know it is all in there. So the first thing you do especially if you are using any HOME version, activate your Administrator account. It's harder to do in Home edition, but it's doable. Also, it's not "a" administrator account, but "THE"Administrator account. In Pro and Ultimate editions, it can be activated from your MMC easily. I don't remember exactly how I did it in HOME editions. I googles it, and found a way.
