Help with fresh install. OEM windows 7 Pro Dvd or ISO ?

Hello my friends

This is the only place where i know people wont say "dont be stupid, upgrade to windows 10"

I know i will not be judged here.

I stopped downloading and applying hotfixes and windows updates back in 2016.
Good old Belarc adviser says i am missing 54 security updates.....but im still chugging along.

I have decided to start fresh, reinstall all over again and grab all the good stuff while support is still there.

My windows drive is getting old. I want to buy a new hard drive and reinstall my windows 7 pro.

I still have the original OEM dvd, and I still have the COA sticker.

The only change i have made was I recently removed my old AMD 7800 graphics card and put in a nvdia gtx 1060.

My Windows has only ever been activated once and that was in the shop when pc was first custom built in back in 2013.

Will Auto online activation still be ok?

Should i reinstall using my original OEM dvd or download and use a microsoft iso?

Thanks to anyone that can help.

If your oem dvd includes SP1, you might as well use it.

I assume from your specs, it is a system builder dvd.

After installation, you can use SIMPLIX for updates - it doesn't include telemetry and other undesirables.

There is nothing like a clean install.
For the updates, use Simplix.
My suggestion is to set Services - Windows Update - Manual and on WU page set it to Never check.
Then run UpdatePatch-19.8.22.exe
Simplix is a single file (750MB) that contain all updates since Win 7 released up to date. It has all security and non security updates without the trash (telemetry and tracking). Very good.
Then run WU manually to find updates for Office etc and decide witch one to install.

To uninstall the telemetry, run cmd file to uninstall those KB files.
kb_spy.cmd.txt
Rename it as KB_Spy.cmd and run it.

If you want to do a huge upgrade on your computer, buy a small SSD (120G) for windows and programs and use your HDD for data.
A small SSD (120G) will cost less than US$25.
Last week a friend brought me a laptop that was taking almost 4 minutes to boot.
I've installed the SSD in the HDD place and installed the HDD on a caddy in the ODD place.

With the SSD it's now taking 30 sec to boot.

120G should be more than enough to install windows and programs if you move the users folder from the SSD (C:\Users) to the HDD (D:\Users).
Use Kari tutorial. I can guide you as I've done it many times

Hi

Based on the fact you said its a custom build, and quoting OEM its likely a system builder key.
You should not have a problem getting an MS download - IF required just check your CD states.

I think it's just a technicality, but as long as you have a lic. for Windows, you can download the OS itself in an ISO, from various sites across the internet.

I like to use one site that has every OS from Genesis to Exodus. And most have all the latest updates already installed, and a great Library of hardware drivers.
Just add a lic. key and you're good to go.

Every month, I go to that site and download the latest OS, just to mess around with. It's kind of a hobby of mine.

Life is so much simpler, when you know the shortcuts.

Hi, can you point me to a link/thread that explains exactly what this file does and who created it?
Thanks

It is a batch file [created by Snick I believe] that uninstalls certain updates using wusa quietly with no restarts.

I hope this helps!
