Most of the complaints I hear about Windows 10, revolve around the failure to properly set it up, right out of the box. Two big security holes are WUDO and Cortana. I disable both during the initial setup.
Those things have been cussed and discussed many times on the Win-10 forum.

Windows 7, and Windows 8.1 don't have those things, and are much nicer and safer OS's. If I were ever forced to stop using Windows 7, (I can't imagine why) my next choice would be Windows 8.1/Pro/64. I just downloaded the very latest version of it, (for testing purposes only) and it's really a nice OS. Installing The Classic Shell, makes it even nicer.

Windows 8.1 is indeed a tad better then Windows 7. If you slim it out enough including Windows store, it's juts like Windows 7 with a bit better kernal, audio processing backend and new shell they call "Ribbon"

Apart from Windows 7, 8.1 is a good alternative.
