Windows 10 Pro x64 1909 - 18363.657 XP/Vista/Win7/Win8.1 in VM for testing

There was a batch of updates issued on the last day of Windows 7 support, as always these will arrive at different times to different users,The Patch Tuesday was Always a Patch Wednesday for me here in the UK

The next Patch Tuesday will not see any further updates for windows 7 (except for major corporations that have Volume licencing in place and a suitable support contract in place at extra cost )

Office 2010 also reaches EOL this year but not for several months so will continue to be patched if needed

64 bit windows 7 home

Been awhile since i was on this thread and wow! Been playing around with Linux a bunch and it mostly solves all my issues. Linux mint to be exact. I nearly have it looking just like windows 7. Been digging a lot and just haven't found anything that fully converts it the way i remember 7 as. Close tho. Just need to get a few buttons correct and only a few icons and i will have a non spying operating system up to date and look like the old windows 7 i miss. Only miss so much as it is driving me nuts at the same time with some issues. So for the ones that are in fear of issues with a out dated windows 7 and fear of the virus, malware/keylogger windows 10 there is another way. You can still run a windows version in a Virtual machine or if you have a real power hungry program to run you can always use a 2nd hard drive. One used daily Linux and another for them windows only things you must have that need all your hardware has to offer. If there is a will there is a way i have found. Or just a 2nd computer. Plenty of different ways to avoid windows 10 and be more private then ever. Even if you have to give up some info due to needing to use a windows 10 you only have to give the bare bones for said program. Depending on the program you could be using windows 7 for just that one. I for one can only find 2 things Linux can't do i need windows for and them 2 i can do in a virtual machine or have a spare drive which i am working on now. Lucky me them 2 things are only once or twice a year thing. Eventually i may find something native to Linux that will do it.

Something about "tinfoil hats" back there? It is funny people who claim others have a tin foil hat and claim they only believe facts are the same ones when shown facts disbelieve them. Who really has the tinfoil hat? Sure you may not have seen any issues with windows having all of your personal information so everyone else is just crazy for fearing it. Then like most fears some of them do come true. It has happened time and time again. Someone makes a claim others say he has a tinfoil hat years later it is found the guy was right. Maybe not every time but the simple fact is it does happen and happens a lot. This leads me to a few questions.

1 if you like windows 10 or you like windows 10 and are fine with them collecting your data why are you on a thread talking about keeping windows 7 on a windows 7 forum?

2 If you are fine with them collecting your data or anyone collecting your data why do you worry about security on your computer at all? Why not shut off all of your security? Anyone at Microsoft can find your information someone could hack in and get it or everyone they distribute your information to can do whatever they want to. Laws don't physically stop a person. Only takes 1 upset employee.

3 If you are ok with your personal data going to people you don't know why haven't i got a copy? Why not every member of this forum have it? At least us you know are forum name do you know any name of a employee at Microsoft?

Something about you can't use social media if you want privacy? Wait who has been around the internet so little they forgot to never put personal info on things like social media? That use to be a rule to play by! Forums have screen names for a reason! You just do the same. Sure most of them try to force you to put your real info on there but there are ways around it. Ohh but your email right? I have never had a email with my real name. You can still get prepaid phones with no names. I know i have one. Even my email for my bank has all false info. They know it as i told them.

In the end everyone has a point in which privacy is important to them. I don't see anyone freely sharing there bank info anywhere and i sure don't see people removing the blinds off there windows while leaving the lights on so everyone can see everything they do all day and night. If no one fights for there privacy now eventually the privacy wall will be at your discomfort zone. It may not affect you now but eventually it will if no one speaks up! I wonder how them who call others crazy with tinfoil hats would like all of us being able to see him/her any time we wanted just by clicking a button! Oh still not worried? Please send us a link to the 24hr webcam that shows your every move and everything you see with no interruptions! Until then privacy is important to everyone!

Windows 7 Home Premium

I had installed whatever the last updates were a couple of days ago.

As one keeping Windows 7 for simple, basic usage, MSE is still functional, still says my PC is protected, with virus and spyware definitions created this morning, and definitions updated in the afternoon. So, what exactly does it mean, that spyware/virus definitions will be updated? Is that a good thing and helpful? I've never had any major issues with my computer and MSE- once, I had another anti-virus program installed on the computer, and even though I didn't run it, it slowed down the system. Once I removed that one and just used MSE, the computer's run relatively smoothly.

That support article says the 'MSE platform will no longer be updated'. The 'platform' means to the GUI, the user interface. The bits of of MSE that do the actual work are the scan engine and the definitions updates. Both of those will continue to be updated until 2023.

W7 home 64

Want to stay with W7 then the answer is simple just stay with it! You can get a little crazy with this like me - im using W7 with ryzen build from almost 3years and everyting is flawless. I have turned off Windows updates long time ago. Yes you CAN be safe withtout those updates just use your PC with brain - read on internet about safe using your PC if u are green.
I also buy some PC parts like ryzen processors/motherboards (with W7 drivers available)/GPU and RAMs just to be safe and be able to put couple of machines when the one I use die after some years... Just want to be covered for next +15-25 years.

Yes, most people will tell its crazy and it is a little but I have no other choice. My reasons to stay for W7 forever are partially the micosoft shit which is included in W10 and the way they force people to use it.
BUT the main reason is different and might be the one you never heard of.... I have tried it once but im in those group of people being affected with the new 4k displays/new drivers/new consoles etc. I just can't use those without eye strain/headache. Same was with W10.

Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

Any Open Source project is capable of being scrutinized and looked over (that is one of the points of Open Source!). If it contained malicious software/backdoors, anything of that nature it would become public knowledge very quickly and be 'the end' of the project.

Proprietary software on the other hand is completely open to being abused and bunged full of backdoors etc. It's why Windows 10 is what it is (a spyware tool).

Win 7 Ult 64-bit

I use Waterfox, an unofficial branch of Firefox, and for online work I've changed my user agent to Firefox 59, because the sites I use require Chrome or Firefox.

Is it similarly possible to disguise Win7 as Win 10?
And can someone on another site actually see I'm using 7?

I have the Custom User Agent String extension in my Waterfox. Can I just change it to this?

"Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:59.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/59.0"
