User folder exits but not displayed

This is really weird. I just got my new Win7Pro pc and proceeded to copy most of my data from a shared external drive that is connected to my XP ProSP3 PC. Everything is flawless. I installed Office 2003 Professional and imported outlook.pst from the XP machine and everything is fine.

However, if I click start-computer-c:, the user folder is not displayed. I know it is there because I can navigate directly to it in the explorer bar. I’ve turned on hidden files so that is not the issue. All of my data is fine, I just cannot access the folder path via start-computer-c:

If I navigate directly to c: and click properties previous versions, I do see the user folder displayed on previous versions. I really do not want to undue what I have configured, plus the restore option is greyed out.

I’m concerned there is permission or other issue. Thank you in advance if anyone has a suggestion to fix this annoyance.

Try running the system file checker: From an elevated command prompt type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes, hit enter and let it complete.

If that doesn't fix it, perhaps you should do a repair install. This keeps your programs, data and most settings intact.

Another possible approach would be to set up a new user account and then from within the new account, copy over all the folders/files below your old user name to the new user account and see if everything is then fixed and working properly in the new user account. If so and once you are sure all your programs and data are in the new account and are working properly, you could then go ahead and delete the old user account. Then you could rename the new user account to the same name the old (now deleted) user account had and everything should be fine (hopefully :)) .

Thanks for your reply. Before I try your suggestion, I discovered one other thing. I went into folder options:view and unchecked "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" Now users shows up in the root folder, and withing users, several folders have a lock box. Does this change your recommendation?
