Drag and Drop .... won't!

W7 here with all the updates and using an MS Intellimouse (with the red LED) The new Graphics card is a GeForce GTX1050Ti


What's going on is that I cannot drag and drop a file or any shortcut on my desktop with out it opening multiples of the original. I can't drag a folder or anything else and move it from " A to B"


I have changed to another LED mouse, changed the port the mouse is in, and spent a bundle on a new graphics card thinking that was the trouble. It was not.


I can't do anything productive with the computer the way it is, its maddening to say the least. If I wast to replace a letter or word in a sentence, the whole thing becomes highlighted, not just one word.



I looked at hardware acceleration but I can't change it with this card. The mouse is so sensitive you have to be afraid to touch the damned thing, for fear of what program it might start.


I should mention too that this is a dual boot machine with Linux Mint, sadly the over sensitivity has followed me to Linux so I can't boot to there to escape it..


Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Please perform this [it will rule out device errors] . . .

Under the heading msinfo32 [MS System Information] - Problem Devices . . ., please run MS_Info32_Find_Problem_Devices.bat, Option [2] from here => BATCH PROGRAMS [Standalone] and then upload the results using the tutorial at the bottom of the above link [Upload to SevenForums . . .] and someone will look at it for you.

The msinfo.bat file ran and ended with the message " no erros found" or words to that effect. I couldn't find any log on the desktop. I assume because it found no errors.


I have not yet run sfc /scannow or chkdsk. The latter one scares me because once it ran without my permission and went crazy deletng important files, so I really use it with discretion but I will do so as a last resort.

What puzzles me is that the problem followed me to Linux Mint which of course is on a separate partition.If there were errors or corrupted files in W7 I can't see how that would effect Linux.


Running sfc /scannow produced a message saying that corrupt files were located but could't be fixed By Windows Resource Protection. I do have the CBS log it created would that be of any help ? I can't open it.

Correct, I wrote it to delete the file if there wasn't any errors produced so as to not leave clutter on the desktop.

You could run SFC from here . . .

Paul, a tiny "no errors found" text file will be no problem to delete from the desktop :)

That may be true, but why add a empty file to the desktop when the batch script tells you in the cmd prompt: NO PROBLEM DEVICES WERE FOUND, deleting the EMPTY file . . .?

You would be surprised how many of us either did not correctly read that one-liner, or missed it altogether, or forgot that no errors were found. And, if adjusted, your batch files can be a part of several on a walkaway or overnight "Echo Y|" batch run.

I always write my batch scripts with the user in mind, that is why I put detailed information [messages] within the script so they can see exactly what is going on and when. I normally suppress the MS messages that are generated because they are more often than not too long and confusing, and replace them with mine which are hoprfully more descriptive and understandable!

Sorry, I DON'T understand what you are saying!

Paul, your batch files are masterpieces of great working stuff! So are Snicks! They worked for me very well! And, I love tiny text files of good and not-good reports - such are tucked into my Logs directory.

"Echo [x] | ..." are pieces within a batch file that automatically answer Y[es] or N[o], depending upon what [x] is. Long ago, batch files were written with Yes/No, If/Then, If exist, if not exist, and so many more forks in the road, unsupervised, information-gathering, batch runs in mind.

I think Freebooter has some examples around someplace. If you reach my Google/MyDrive's college cafe section, there are some examples I used on a daily basis back in the days from Windows 3.1 all the way to Windows for Workgroups 3.11. Windows 95 and beyond more and more restricted the usability of batch files. I think there some diehards that run such batch-files, let's smoke 'em out.
