Repeating KEYSTROKES "/////////////" when I try to type in search box

My system is windows 7 ultimate on an Acer Aspire7739Z laptop . My laptop keyboard stopped working but the touchpad still works. Now I am using a usb corded keyboard.
This repeating "/////" happens and after it has been powered on for awhile, then I cannot do anything but shut it down.
I disabled the autofills and unchecked filter keys , to no avail.
    Anybody have any solutions
    Thanks

    Hi Deborah2016
Sounds like you have an issue with your USB keyboard. the forward slash / is most likely damaged in the electrical connection area. Maybe the lamination on the printed circuitry, some foreign liquid spilled. You can purchase a new keyboard relatively inexpensive, a usb or even better a wireless usb keyboard. The fact that you are describing two different problems with the same key, new or working used replacement would be my suggestion. I would open the laptop and replace the keyboard, pretty easy actually, usually a video on how. A picture as you go, reverse the pictures, as you replace the parts, there you go, you are a computer repair technician.

It sounds like that key is stuck. Have you tried removing it or another keyboard? YouTube

Yes, seems to me tha the / key is stuck. But it can be from the laptop keyboard.
Did you detached the flat cable from the damaged laptop keyboard?

Be very careful and take your time, if the connector breaks, it will cost a new keyboard for sure.

Roland, OP said that the laptop keyboard is already damaged, that is why she is using a USB external keyboard.

"Did you detached the flat cable from the damaged laptop keyboard?"
I misunderstood the situation, thinking OP was retrying retesting the original.
