    Introduction and a problem

    Hi All

I recently installed windows 7 and so far I am very pleased with it.

There is just one problem: I can not seem to install things from my CD-drive (this includes office 2007). I get an error message which is :"D:\ is not a valid win32-program"

Any idea of why this is?

Thank you for any help in advance.

I was having a little problem with my DVD Drive after I installed Win 7. Download this program, Imgburn. It is a good burning program that is free. See if it makes any difference. Get it here. The Official ImgBurn Website

Did you clean install or upgrade. If you did an upgrade, I suggest you start over and do a clean install. Are you trying to install 64 bit program on a32 bit OS? It sound like that might be the problem. Right click on my computer, go to properties and you can see if you are 32 bit or 64 bit. Your programs must be the same.

I don't think as such, that I ran a clean install. The harddrive I installed it on alredy had XP on it. This reulted, among other things, in the creation of a windows.old folder, but I thought it innert. It seems I might have been wrong.

I also got a wier error message from my wow today:

It seems they might be interarelated.

Just i case it wasnt alredy obvious, I am hardly a comuter wiz.

Thx for the ideas though....will try the program

    Also FyI: I installed 32-bit.

If you had XP you did a clean install. That is the only way.

As far as I know, you are correct, but if a clean install was done, why is there a windows.old folder?

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I believe that I had a windows.old after a clean install also. I guess it is created by default.

You have a windows.old with a clean or custom install. NO windows.old with an upgrade. No windows.old with a clean, clean install (format)

I decided to do a CLean CLean install (Format). However, I now have problems with the CD-Drive again. It appears that the drivers are not currently installed. which prevents me from installing the OS. However, the computer also seems to be unable to detect the drivers (for the CD reader) from the containing medium (which is , of course , not a cd).

The CD drive is a Pioneer DVR-111. Any one else had issues with those?

If you have more than one physical drive, and install Win7 on a different (formatted) disk to the previous OS, you will get a windows.old.
