I Converted to Win10 almost 4 months ago and still HAPPY I did!

As many here have been on the fence to upgrade to the Win10 platform I to was fighting all the way until earlier this year.

Yes, Win7 is stable but I was having issues with my browser and other software moving forward to the Win10 platform and so I upgraded and did a fresh clean install as I still had my FREE version waiting as I upgraded when Win10 first came out but diverted back to Win7 Ultimate because I just wasn't ready.

    Fast forward April 10,2020
I actually thought it would kill me to use Win10 Pro but you know it was easier and less nail biting than I though.
It is definitely more stable and increased speed desktop speed is a pleasant surprise.
    So yes. I'm happy..

I really hated MS Edge with a passion and used IE11 and Chrome until Microsoft finally why fight it and build their new Edge with the Chrome engine inside with a few mods.

If you want to stay with Win7 that is great and hope you continue with good luck.
For the folks on the fence the grass is greener on the other side and actually after a short learning curve you may be very surprised as I was.

PS This is coming from a very old fart who has been around the block even before Apple and Microsoft.
Just turn 70 and still have my sanity.
So come on and switch over and don't wait until you are 70 years old.

If you have any productive questions on the upgrade ask away.

Hi Iggy. I've been to Arizona, and I love it, both the warm parts and cool parts.

You're still a youngster compared to me, and I still remember moving up from Tubes to Transistors.

One problem that so many folks have with Win-7, is that their PC's were never set up properly to begin with. Just out of the box, Windows can be a real Dog!
I'm a Computer tech of over 40 years, and I've taken service calls on a b'zillion PC's where the main complaint is, "it's running so slow!". And, it usually is.
My speciallity is "Performance and Security".

In performance, I can speed up most PC's by up to 100%, with just a few tweaks and adjustments.
MS puts out its OS's with an absolutely awful amount of what they call "Safe Defaults". To me, "Safe" means SLOW!

Also, Win-7, for instance, saves everything it does in a file somewhere. Eventually the whole PC will slow to a crawl, just dealing with all that saved 'Crap'.
So you install a new OS, and VOILA, your PC is so much faster. It's not the new OS, but it's the lack of years of Crap build up. Without good PC maintenance and CRAP removal, your new OS will slow down just like the old one did.

I've been running Win-7/Pro/32 here on my main PC since Win-7 first came out. The first thing I did after install was to kill off the Safe Defaults, shut down all unused and unneeded Services, and set up some daily maintenance, which I run from a Batch File in the Startup folder, that deletes all temp files, etc.

After I tune up a customer's PC, I get comments like "Dang! It didn't run that fast when it was new!"
All I can say is, "I know. It's what I do!"

    Happy Easter!

    From TechnoMage to TechnoChicken:

You sound just like a friend of mine, also from Ontario.
He's also a retired PC tech, like me.

A few of my tweaks, I thought up myself, but a good share of them are "Out There" on the internet, for anyone looking for them. I've spent the past 30 years compiling my tweaks to speed up a PC.

I started trying to improve performance with DOS 2.0. I actually edited the Erso Bios for faster startup, on my first PC/XT. (clone)

Whenever I've tried to share some of my tweaks over the internet, there's always the 'Self Proclaimed Expert' who will come on saying "That won't work!" or some such negative BS.

What I HAVE done, for honest PC Tech's, is to just mail them my Utilities DVD. But I can't send them to Ca. because they don't seem to get past the border censors.
I thought it was bad when after hundreds of years of an open border, we now have to have a PassPort to just enter Ca.

Anyway, everything I do is out there on the internet for those who want to do a Search for it. But, not all in the same place.

Some of my batch files and scripts can be sent via email as texts.

    Like this:
    %windir%\System32\shutdown.exe /s /t 1

That's my Quick Shutdown shortcut for Win-7.

    Iggy,
Just a question, as an afterthought.
When installing Win-10, what did you do about those HUGE Security holes?
I'm talking about WUDO and Cortana.

I have both of those 'documented'.

They are like leaving all the doors on your home OPEN for fresh air. You'll get the fresh air YES, but you'll also get the bugs, rats and home invaders.
Win-10 can be run with a fairly high level of security, but it doesn't come out of the box that way....it's something you have to work at.

    Good Luck!
    TM

PS: I have both Win-7 Pro and Win-10 Pro running here, on different PC's, and my Win-7 runs just as fast or faster than the Win-10. So, it's not the OS, but how you run it. I use the same Speed UP tweaks on Win-10 as Win-7.

As we all know support for Windows 7 ended on January 14 and I put off upgrading to Windows 10.
The only Windows 10 computer I had was a laptop that I bought in September of 2019.
5 other computers were still Windows 7.
On January 15 I decided it to try the upgrade and selected a sacrificial computer and bang! it was now a Windows 10 computer!
    So--that afternoon I did 3 more computers--NO PROBLEM.
The next morning I upgraded the last Windows 7 computer.

    Absolutely no problems.

The reason I put off going to Windows 10 was I thought I would have to wipe the drives and start over. That could have been a lot of work. Well, obviously it was unnecessary.
    So happy I did t.

Nice, I have been on the fence about updating to Windows 10...
I have my main PC a custom build I built myself... and a old 2008 Toshiba laptop...

both run Windows 7 ULTIMATE x64

if anything I plan to buy another identical 1TB HDD and get a friend to ghost the OS/BOOT HDD and try updating that HDD to Win10 and see what happens.. if I do at all.. Its too much trouble to do a fresh install all the config work I put into Windows 7..

    any one else got advice?

I agree but I thought I would give it a try on January 15 and tried that software on a refurbished HP 6000 and little later I had a Windows 10 machine. I couldn't believe it.

I am still kicking myself for waiting so long to change.

Now all 6 are purring like kittens.
