Problem with win XP because of winXP/Win7 Dual Boot

I have windows xp in a partition and recently i installed windows 7 in another partition. From then there is this problem with windows xp, exe files are not opening, when i click on exe files, open with window pops up... Also my antivirus(mcafee 8.5i) is completely disabled in xp. Is all this because of windows 7? Please help me, how to fix my xp again.

Saw this often enough in XP, frequently caused by virus as Microsoft addresses here Can't open EXE files see if that helps

Boot into the XP installer and run a Repair install.

THis is not the first "click R for repair" option you encounter after F8'ing the license agreement. Instead proceed as if to install until it finds the installation and then offers you another option to Repair the installation.

Everything will be kept in place except the OS will be reinstalled. Afterward you will need to reactivate and use EasyBCD to Add XP back into the Boot menu.

If you want to try an integrity check of the OS files first, then run sfc /scannow and insert your XP CD in the OD.

If indeed it is a virus then it may carry over so you will need to do a formatted clean install of XP. Have your files backed up in either case.
