    No substitute for Google Desktop

I was really sorry when Google discontinued Google Desktop. There is no competition or substitute on what it does and how well it does it. Even so, I have managed so far to transfer Google Desktop to all my new computers, because I canŽt live without it.

Shame on Microsoft for the abismally bad -in my opinion- search functionality in every Windows instance. And it never gets fixed or improved.

    Hi jlua,

We agree that Google desktop was great and its a shame they discontinued it.

My software company decided to fill the void with a search tool that is even better and helps you search and organize your data quickly and easily.

Search for getrummage in google to find out more.

    Kind regards,
    Ben

ComputerC: Thank you for the tip about "getrummage". I will certainly download it and try it out. However, just by reading the web site, it seems that "getrummage" doesnŽt reach to web history and -understandably- Gmail, as Google Desktop does, or, rather, did. Even then, if it does documents search as well -or better as you say- than Google Desktop, IŽd be very happy.

Currently Rummage works only on your files and data on your local machine. Gmail and web history is items for the future. You can always get in touch with the team and make your suggestions public. User demand help to shape the product and this early stage.
For now, its all about retrieving and organizing your documents.

I've seen comments that filelocator lite exceeds the Google Desktop search experience. I've used filelocator lite for some years now and think it's great. I'm not sure about the "web history" capability you refer to though.
