    Screen problem after installation

Quick question, I have jsut installed Windows 7 (and love it ) but there is a black strip down the left side of my monitor. it looks as if the screen has moved to the right about an inch leaving me unable to click the 'X' button on programs when maximised. I know there will be a stupidly easy solution but I'm stuck and not a computer wizz.

    Thanks for the help

Try Control panel > Appearance and Personalization Display > Adjust screen resolution

You should have control on your monitor to adjust the screen. I guess that there are some monitors that don't have these, because of cousin of mine had one that didn't several years ago, and I blew up a brand new KDS CRT testing a program called PowerStrip, which is for such adjustments. It may have just been that the monitor that I had was a lemon, but I tend to blame the program instead, if for no other reason that their support dept had a really rotten attitude.

I'm not sure samboro, I messed with something in either Office or WMP, and got a toolbar down the left side of the screen ...which was blank when I clicked on other programs, so I did a system restore to get my full screen back.

Also you could try 'personalization' and the desktop background settings ...

thanks for replying jacee, unfortunatly this hasnt worked either. Changing the settings of the background picture jsut changed how big, small or stretched it was, it didnt move the whole screen to the left thanks again though.

    any other ideas are welcome

Maybe your display card is unable to support the size / resolution of your TV monitor?

What is your screen resolution and what is your display adapter capable of? Do you get a recommended setting under Control panel > Display > screen resolution?
