do i need to reformat???
do i need to reformat???
Most all of us agree that an upgrade is not the route to take. It leaves useless files on your system and can cause conflicts.
Save all you Documents, Pictures, contacts, videos, music, etc to a flash drive,
Be aware, you will need to re-install your 3rd party applications.
yea i just figured that its pretty much identical mobos just a bit more upgraded, and since bios updates are installed in the actual bios.
Shouldn't think so. The differences are pretty minor. In fact, I'm curious why the OP is upgrading from one X58 board to another.
The most significant difference I see is that the Deluxe uses a Marvell controller for the PATA interface (and other things), while the vanilla P6T uses JMicron. It might be a good idea to uninstall the JMicron drivers before the swap. I doubt that it's necessary, though, unless your boot drive is on that controller. Probably unecessary, even then.
IMHO,. it would be better to re-format.
Many useless files are left behind and can cause conflicts.
I have just upgraded from an MSI k9n6pgm2-x to an Asus m4a785-m. I decided to try booting without reformatting, and it went well for a while. It went well until I installed something with a virus in it trying to decompress a game file so I could make a game mod.
IMO, it is better to format the drive, but only because when you re-install windows all the drivers will be completely changed and you know for certain that they have been installed correctly from the get-go without any guessing.
