No offense to the OP but...this may be a nominee for the greatest troll thread of the year
Yes, I reinstalled from scratch. Reinstalling the applications was not the big deal. I keep a copy of all the installation .exes of anything I ever download on a seperate 2.5" disk. And for things like Office 2007 I have the CD. The big deal was to reinstall all the updates. My recovery partition was more than 2 years old - ergo pre SP1 and they ran me thru a couple of hundred updates for days on end. I did, however, not install SP2 because I think that is what threw the monkey wrenches into my system in the first place.
As far as Windows7 goes, I installed that twice from the purchase RTM disk because I switched my SSDs. And then I installed the applications from my 2.5" disk and the CDs. Fortunately everything is working after some tweaks - e.g. I reinstalled the Vista sidebar. Win7 showered me with relatively few updates because it is new.
After all we are civilized people - aren't we?
I consider myself pretty computer savvy and have built and maintained over 150 machines since the early 90's.
The only pre-built machines I have owned were my Commodore Amiga 3000 and various laptops through the years.
After using Vista Ultimate from Jan of this year till August when Win 7 came out and now using 7, I will never go back to XP.
I don't seem to have any issues with 7 at all. Works great on my HTPC, my Main machine, as well as on my Dell Mini 9, in fact Win 7 runs better on the Dell than it did with Windows XP Home.
