Out of sudden , aero theme it switches to basic theme

I was surfing net and listening to music , then the aero theme switches to basic theme out of nowhere. I tried to go to personalize and set it back , but could not.

I had to log off as user and log back in again to solve it.

    Anyone experienced it ?

Have you updated all your drivers? Use driver sweeper on the nvidia graphics drivers.

Earlier on , i installed the new nvidia driver over the old one.
Should i use driver sweeper prior to installing a new driver always ?

Yes, in the control panel, uninstall the nvidia driver, then any others. After that reboot into safe mode, and run driver sweeper as admin. Reboot again into safe mode and install the newest driver.

Start Menu>Help and Support>type aero troubleshooter in the search window and run the wizard.

I've had that happen a few times now. I'm not sure if it's entirely going to Basic though or just turning off Aero. I can mess around in Personalization a bit with switching themes but none turn things "on" the way they're supposed to.

Anyway, if I just keep using the computer, it seems to go back to the way it's supposed to be within 15-20 minutes all on its own. Otherwise, restarting does seem to fix stuff.

I'm on an ATI Radeon 4850 if it matters. Can't figure out anything I do that causes it to occur, or what causes it to revert back. Happens maybe once every 1-2 weeks.

I have that happen frequently. It depends on the programs that you use, some are not compatible with the Aero Theme, and causes the change. However, in all cases for me ...except one, it changes back to Aero within seconds after closing the program. These programs disables the Desktop Window Manager Session Manager in services.msc. It sounds as though you have some program that is starting up on it's own periodically.
