Microsoft Virtual Desk Tool & Google Chrome

Hi, I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64bit and have downloaded the official Desktop 2 tool from Microsoft which provides virtual desking for Windows 7 & 8.But when I create a new virtual desk and run Chrome, nothing happens. Sometimes Chrome opens a new window but in the original virtual desk.Incidentally, native Windows Apps work fine with virtual desktop which is why I'm logging the question here.ANy experience appreciated. Thanks

Post a link to this software please. Is it the Azure branded software? I have no idea what this Microsoft Virtual Desk Tool is.

Are you trying to remote into a local or remote computer? I can offer two alternative solutions if this is the case. I use both and they work well.

The first is Input Director. This is a virtual KVM (Keyboard Video Mouse). I have a laptop sitting here on the desk and if I want to interact with it using my current desktop mouse/keyboard I just use Input director.

Alternatively, if I want a full screen KVM so to speak, I'll use TightVNC locally, and ONLY locally. Never over the Internet through a forwarded port. For over the Internet usage I use a program called ZeroTier. ZeroTier creates A VPN of sorts (there's a proper name but I can't remember it) and now I can punch though a firewall and don't require a forwarded port to get remote access to my computer. ZeroTier has an App as well.

If you're paying for that Microsoft product and it's doing what I just described you're being ripped off when there are better and free alternatives... Unless of course this is all about company compliance and shit...

Is perhaps a Chrome process already running in Task Manager when you switch to a different virtual desktop? I don't use Chrome, but try checking to see if "continue running in background" is turned off in your Chrome settings, and whether that makes a difference.

Yeah, I have the same thing, and not just with Chrome but with other browsers. This is something that already happens if you try to launch a browser process when one is already running. Virtual desktop or not.

I don't think this particular virtual desktop software is coded very well. Especially since it creates multiple explorer.exe processes and each virtual desktop goes to classic GUI mode which is fugly.
