by the way, can i unregister the product key from the old laptop and transfer that to the new netbook?

Not if it came with the laptop - so called OEM version. Look on the System page under Windows Activation whether it says OEM.

i paid for my copy separately from my local fry's store 2 weeks before the release (i was hoping for a upgrade retail which i asked for but i guess not)
but they gave me oem that i paid $90+tax (1 day sale)
plus it says it on the product i have right now in the little white cover case with the barcode

brian, I have a netbook was well as a much faster laptop and desktop PC. I love the netbook, but it won't win any awards for video performance, so games are out of the question. 7 works fine on my acer netbook, but I can't get decent performance in XP or 7 when watching video. games? LOL! out of the question.

It does not matter. OEM is OEM and cannot be transferred. But you can always call Microsoft and see what they have to say.

it depends on netbooks. i am getting a hp mini 110 and one of the videos on youtube has a guy plaing WoW on it. i just wanna play nes or snes on it for fun. and the upgrade of the mini netbook i can upgrade the screen to HD and a video card to ir for about $50 total

ah, sounds like it has superior innards to the Acer, but since I despise HP's tech support, I'd never get another one of their PC's. Bad enough I've had to deal with them in the past for some desktop PC's I own, and more recently had to waste a lot of time getting yet another ink cartridge replaced for my HP OfficeJet. Forty minute phone call with someone who's first language isn't English, followed by them sending me the wrong cartridge, despite having told them 3 times the exact model of cartridge I needed. Next phone call took 35 minutes to go through the whole spiel again, to get the correct cartridge. Typical of HP support. I avoid them like the plague.

You are certainly right with the HP support. They are useless. In contrast, the Canon people are really very helpful.
