Windows 7 on Lenovo Yoga 6?

Could it happen? I think it could, but i may be wrong. The specs for my machine are stock and are brand new. I think this could help others with the same and similar devices. :)

I dont really have any info on how you could because there is nothing on the internet!

    Thanks for your time.

It is a little more difficult to install Win 7 on a Ryzen 5 5500u laptop than on a desktop.
It isn't a task for newbies.
    - You will have to add drivers to the Win 7 installation files.
    - You will have to use some tweaked Win 7 files.
Motherboard for Ryzen 5 5600X that supports W7
Windows 7 on B550 With Ryzen 5 CPU

So, would i be able to use the method? i know it is a laptop and it obviously isnt a B550, but i dont think it would work.

    Lenovo is Windows 7 killer.
None of my Lenovo PC can run/install Windows 7. I had tried too much time. (typically freezing up during install, even you prepared everything)

    no, it's no-go. period.

Windows 10/11 run fine. no any issues. looks like Windows 11 runs faster than Windows 10 on same Lenovo hardware setting.

I didn't have the chance to try installing Windows 7 on a new computer, but I guess if it supports Legacy mode boot (CSM) and you can slipstream the storage drivers, so it can detect the disk, you could possible force some drivers for the rest hardware in Device Manager. Use nLite to add any drivers to Windows 7 ISO and then burn on DVD or use Rufus to create a bootable USB flash drive. Assuming you have installed Windows 7 successfully you should see a lot of yellow ! in Device Manager. I would download the Windows 10 64-bit drivers or earlier, if possible, directly from manufacturer or even the respective component manufacturer. Given the choice I would download the ZIP file instead of the EXE version, or use WinRAR to extract the contents of the driver in a folder. Then go at Device Manager and try to manually force the drivers by right-clicking on the device, choosing Update drivers and then the second option (manual), again the second option (select drivers) and clicking on the Have disk option. Next time some modern PC or laptop comes at our service, if I have enough time, I will put a spare disk and try installing Windows 7 64-bit to see if it can be done. I will report here or start a new thread.

Lenovo company has setup a whitelist on BIOS. Windows 7 is NOT on the list.

If you read various mod forums, many requests on Lenovo BIOS mod.

Worse, comparing with other PC BIOS mod (HP Dell MSI ASUS, , ,), Lenovo BIOS mod is most difficult. Typically needs additional hardware/chips and SPI programmer. That's NOT for common users.

btw, my Lenovo CSM was enabled.

I was talking about to install Windows 7 by simply configuring your BIOS and having the appropriate drivers slipstreamed at the USB if necessary. If I have to recompile my BIOS or use a custom BIOS with all the relevant risks, no thanks! I would do it just out of curiosity to see if it can be done and see how it feels to use Windows 7 on a modern PC. I wouldn't use it as my main OS, I already have Windows 11 and I have customized it to look like Windows 7.
